The EA hound us all the time butrefuse to go anywhere travelers sites wherethere are very large piles of waste and we havehighlighted them to the EA._In essence, the EAare very selective in who they pursue and theyseem to steer clear of those that are deemednot to be likely to defeat.They believe an integrated approachto local planning and permitting isneeded. All controls on constructionsites could be through local planningconsent. They do see that a possiblebarrier could be the capability of localauthorities to implement.The advantage would be that one bodyis overseeing the process as a wholeand that cross control impacts aretaken into account at a single stage.5 Do you have any othercomments regardingwaste legislations i.e.do current legislationsencourage you to buysupplies any differentlyor encourage/force yoursuppliers to sell"sustainable"/recyclable products?Cost as a deterrent isn't the right method, egmaking landfill expensive not the answer. Iftighten up on monitoring and make it lessexpensive to comply then would have moresuccess.They would like to see a more forwardlookingapproach. UK needs to showinitiative with creating legislation ratherthan just implementing legislation thatis dictated by the EU. They believethat we tend to allow the EU to leadthe agenda.Other countries that are proactive tendto get their legislation implemented atan EU level which then filters down toother member states.They said that if we were to take alead it could give us a competitiveedge as we could have the legislationand mechanisms in place before othermember states started implementing.An example of which is Denmark as18 AEA Energy & Environment
