' I •OTHER SECTOR CHANGESKansas City - Sioux City Sector. · - TIie --KansasCity NoRAb Sector, replaced by the-Sioux City<strong>NORAD</strong> Sector, was officially relieved of all airdefense responsibilities on 15 <strong>Jan</strong>uary 19~2.Detroit and Chicago Sector Boundaries.<strong>NORAD</strong> published general orders assigning the finalprogrammed area of responsibility to the Detroitand Chicago <strong>NORAD</strong>/<strong>CONAD</strong> Sectors, effective 25 May<strong>1962</strong>. Originally, the boundary change was to~~keplace on 5 May, but it was held up by ~~clay ingetting the Cincinnati BIRDIE system operat±o~al.Goose Sector Headquarters Location. ~ORAD/<strong>CONAD</strong> general orders issued on 30 March 1960 hadplaced the Goose <strong>NORAD</strong>/<strong>CONAD</strong> Sector Headquartersat Melville Air Station, Labrador. On 13 <strong>Jun</strong>e ­<strong>1962</strong>, <strong>NORAD</strong>/<strong>CONAD</strong> issued general orders placingthe Goose Sector Headquarters instead at nearbyGoose Air Base, Labrador. The Goose Sector Headquartershad actually been collocated at Goosewit~ the Goose Air Defense Sector Headquartersall the time, an arrangement that had facilitate.J!..the use o~the dual staff principle.Sector Designations. To avoid divulging or ~implying the capability of sectors in sectortitles, <strong>NORAD</strong> issued a general order in <strong>Jun</strong>e <strong>1962</strong>deleting the parenthetical designation (manual)from the Goose <strong>NORAD</strong> Sector title. By this timethe parenthetical designations of all other non-SAGE sectors programmed for continuation had alreadybeen dropped. This left Ottawa S~s _ ~ -~the only non-SAGE sector still carrying its (manual)designation, a disparity that would be correctedwhen the Ottawa Sector converted to SAGEin 1963.~ ? . ~: ' .~::~-i.
