Previously, shetaught at Dalhousie University (1999-2007) and the Royal Military College of Canada where shewas the Canada Research Chair in Global Studies (2007-2013). Her research interests includegender and development and the role of Canada and Canadians in the world. Specifically, herwork has focused on gender inequality in the Global South, human security, Canadian foreignaid policy, global citizenship and youth volunteer abroad programs. Her research has focussedprimarily on countries in sub-Saharan Africa (Malawi, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda,Ethiopia and South Sudan). Crossroads supports innovative international projects and partnershipsbetween organizations in Canada and eight countries in West Africa, Southern Africa and SouthAmerica, working to advance the rights of women and girls and the right to sustainablelivelihoods for all.Karen has extensive experience working with a wide range of organizations at the community,provincial and national level as a senior manager, funder and volunteer. She is past Chair of theBoard of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation, Canada’s coalition of pre-eminent75
