• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander: Hosting Deadly Start to High School Program Collaborative Planning resulted in an early closure for staff professional development from 2.30pm to 4.30pm every Tuesday in 2013. COMMENDATIONS FROM THE VALIDATION OF THE SELF-­‐REVIEW Brighton Secondary School is to be commended on: • The rigorous attention to strategies to address recommendations from the previous Validation • The outstanding commitment to continuous improvement as well as the critically reflective approach. The persistent, relentless focus on improvement is led by the principal and principal team • The culture of high expectation. The school motto of “Fac Omnia Bene” (Do all things well) is embedded • Outstanding student achievement academically, in specialist areas and in co-­curricular areas. Student success is acknowledged and celebrated widely. RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE VALIDATION OF THE SELF-­‐REVIEW That Brighton secondary School: • Continue to develop consistency in staff expectations about behaviour management and pedagogy • Monitor the number of projects and professional learning workshops attended by staff to ensure that it is connected to the Site Improvement priorities • Review communication processes to (a) ensure that all stakeholders have consistent information and decisions are clearly understood (b) minimize the number and frequency of emails to staff • Introduce the planned strategies for authentic student voice • Inquire into the student and parent perception that there is a hierarchy of student achievement A further inquiry for the school is to identify the elements that come together to make Brighton Secondary School so successful. 21
