STUDENTS The Year 12 students began the year with the inaugural induction program held at the University of South Australia City West campus. <strong>2012</strong> Year 8 ATSI students transitioned well-­‐ attributed to the Year 7 orientations, Year 11 mentors and the Deadly Start to High <strong>School</strong> hosted at <strong>Brighton</strong> <strong>Secondary</strong> <strong>School</strong>. In particular, Angus Cameron, a very talented Year 8 student has been successful in all his subjects as well as being a successful singer. The appointment of Nima Valamanesh 0.2 paid dividends in positively supporting students who were previously failing but now working successfully across all subjects. Nima is rightly proud of this accomplishment. The Principal attended the Stronger Smarter training in Queensland and led the Professional Development day for Understanding Aboriginal Perspectives. Natasha Johnson was runner-­‐up in National Title speech competition, Neville Bonner memorial prize. Sporting participation remained extremely high. Students Cody Kumnick, Mikaela Trout and Alexandra Newton and Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator, Peter Vowles, joined 30 other students and teachers from around the state at a forum to help shape the new national Health and Physical Education curriculum. The forum was held at the Adelaide Crows training facility at AAMI stadium. Students participated in small group discussion and their input was recorded on iPads. The recorded video footage was sent to the Australian <strong>Report</strong>ing and Assessment Authority as part of the South Australian Department for Education and Child Development submission. NET GIRLS Research Study with Flinders University Follow-­‐up survey occurred with students in Years 10 and 11 and final report published. Excellent results were achieved in the Australian Maths competition. High Distinctions Awarded to: Andrew Andrawos, Lachlan Tyler Dowd Distinctions Awarded to: Rebekah Rath, Mark Teoh, Celine Chia, Marcus Falckh, Ellena Comley, William Voss, Bowen Liu, Anyue Lang and Spencer Olds. At the MASA Quiz evening one of the junior teams was awarded the best mathematics team on the evening. The member were Alexandra James, Bowen Liu, William Voss and Anyue Lang. Higher participation occurred in ICAS Maths competition. Nathaniel O’Brien won Adelaide’s Next Superstar. 1812 Overture was performed with cannon. 8
