TheCaddy, Passat, Touran, Sharan andTouareg were all renewed. Audi’slaunch of the A7 Sportback will havemade an impression on just abouteveryone. Just like the launch of theA1, manufactured in Brussels in thefactory built by D’Ieteren and ownedby the company until the 1970s (seepage 8). This launch was a runawaysuccess with the luxury city car veryquickly achieving a 1% market sharein Belgium. At Seat, the new Alhambrawas introduced, while Škoda’s SuperbCombi became the reference in itssegment. The Volkswagen groupworks intensively to develop increasinglyenvironmentally-friendly vehiclesand D’Ieteren Auto actively promotesthem in in Belgium. As a result, vehiclesemitting 115g of CO 2/km or lessaccounted for 38.6% of the numberof vehicles sold by VW, Audi, Seat andŠkoda in 2010, against 31.3% for theentire market. This is logical given that,at the end of 2010, these four makesconsistently posted lower averageemissions than their direct competitorsin their segment.Over 20%market shareThanks to top quality ranges, aspecialised network and committedteams, D’Ieteren Auto recorded110,199 new car registrations in2010, equivalent to a market share of20.13%, up 0.79% year-on-year. Thisconstituted the highest level of the decade,yet still below the historic recordset in 1997 (20.48% market share).Volkswagen and Škoda recordedan excellent performance in 2010.Volkswagen is number two in theranking of makes in Belgium. However,excluding unregistrations (vehicles unregisteredless than one month afterbeing registered), Volkswagen comesin first place, with a market share ofover 10%. Volkswagen’s light commercialvehicles are also gaining groundwith their market share reaching9.33%. Škoda is becoming more andmore known for its excellent pricequalityratio, enabling it to achieve anShare in new car registrationshistoric record in terms of volumesand market share.Audi’s market share fell back veryslightly, as production could not meetthe significant unexpected growth inthe market. Nevertheless, the makecontinues to hold fi rst place in the“Premium” segment and has achievedrecord registrations.
