THE PREMIERSAfter 13 years and five attempts in the past seven years, the Woodville-West TorrensFootball Club finally held aloft the Thomas Seymour Hill Trophy -South Australian football’s ultimate prizeThe premiership decider was an enthralling contest betweentwo teams who have forged one of the SANFL’s greatestmodern day rivalries, Woodville-West Torrens and CentralDistrict. The Eagles went into the match underdogs havinglost to their Bulldog nemesis in their past four Grand Finalappearances and by six goals in their Second Semi-Finalclash a fortnight earlier. In what was as much a psychologicalas physical challenge, the Eagles set the standard from theopening bounce, maintaining their lead through all fourquarters before running out convincing 76-point victors overthe Bulldogs. 25,130 fans watched the match live at AAMIStadium, while over 170,000 viewers tuned in to ABC TV’stelecast. LEWIS TROPHYTo perpetuate the memory of the late Stanley H. Lewis, former Chairman of theSouth Australian National Football League, the League introduced the Stanley H.Lewis Memorial Trophy in 1962. The trophy is awarded to the best performedclub across the four grades of the competition – League, Reserves, Under 19 andUnder 17.
