<strong>Wind</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Facility Economic Analysis<strong>Town</strong> of <strong>Orleans</strong>, MA2.2 <strong>Wind</strong> Turbine CharacteristicsWeston & Sampson used the raw data collected by RERL and <strong>Wind</strong>PRO® computer modelingsoftware to predict energy production for a 600 kW wind turbine. Based on the measurements atthe MET tower and the wind resource modeling, the wind speed and direction distribution werederived at the selected wind turbine hub height of 65 meters. At a hub height of 65 meters androtor diameter of 48 meters, the overall height of the turbine would be 89 meters or 292 feet,which is below the Determination of No Hazard height of 397 feet issued by the FAA.The wind speed distribution gives the number of hours that a particular wind speed blows peryear. Using <strong>Wind</strong>PRO® modeling software, this wind speed distribution was then combinedwith the power curve of the selected wind turbine to obtain the gross annual wind energyproduction, corrected for availability and electrical grid efficiency to obtain an estimate for thenet annual wind energy production.The model selected for analysis is an Elecon Turbowinds T600-48 wind turbine with duelgenerators (120/600 kW) and a rotor diameter of 48 meters.
