EVERLASTING INSIGHTNo protection toinauspiciousness in life12345We have to live a complete wakeful andcapable life.We have to march forward, towards the aim withfull enthusiasm and assiduity, holding the groundof knowledge and devotion, with full `purusharth`(manhood) considering `karma` as the religion, remembering the almighty and responsibility tothe accepted task. Every moment, every day, wehave to spend the life, full of achievements. Not for a single moment, we have to patronizeinauspiciousness. We have to live the life on thedirection of the god’s inspiration, which comesevery moment to the soul.We have to give a strong leadership to the nationand to the world, in the spiritualism, social, scientific, economic and political areas.I am the son of almighty, the representative of theageless eternal; I am the son of the seers, motherearth and Bharat Mata. My life would follow idealspreached by them and mine would be an ideal life.§ Swami Ramdev

Acharya BalkrishnaEditor, <strong>Yog</strong> <strong>Sandesh</strong>The unpardonable sin, crime andconspiracies of Congress, leading the UPAGovernmentCongress was founded by a British after 1857 to safeguard their demonic rule. Though, some good people also joined the CongressThe afterwards but due to its anti-Bhartiya character, the top-level nationalists like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Maharshi Arvind,Swami Shraddhanand ji and Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya distanced themselves from the Congress since beginning. Today also, ifthere are any good people in this sinner party ignorantly, mistakenly or affectionately, shall immediately quit the party in the nationalinterest as doing sin and supporting it, both amounts to crime of equal category. Though, there are unending stories of the sinisterdesigns of Nehru, Gandhi families of the Congress but briefly, only some of them are presented here.1 On August 15, 1947, whenour beloved motherland gotindependence, the value ofrupee, dollar and poundswere equal but today, after67 years of the independenceit depreciated severally andtoday, we pay 67 rupee inexchange of 1 dollar. Thecredibility of the country inthe world has perished. Hadthe nation followed the pathof `swadeshi` and honesty, thenation might have saved fromthe situation of abjection andimpoverishment, it is passingcurrently.2. When the law is equal for alland nobody is above it, whythe source of the 20 lakh croreForeign Direct Investment(FDI) is not disclosed, whythe Government is sittingon around 50,000 specificinformation of the illegalexchange and why the namesof over 1,000 moneyed people, depositing black money inforeign banks are not revealed? Are the people involved in scams, taxevasion or bribery is above the legal system of the motherland? Are thepeoples like the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh or RahulGandhi involved in such dubious activities directly or indirectly? Then, why Asharam Ji is lodged in the jail and those, who looted the country, aresitting happily and comfortably in the posh bungalows?3. The nation has been looted to a great extent by this family and the party injust 67 years as compared to even the 1,000 years’ mis-rule of Moguls and theBritish. The family has been directly or indirectly involved in plunderingaround Rs 1 thousand lakh crore and hence, it is not a political family but alooters` family. When the Police arrests pick-pockets and thieves, accusedof stealing Rs 50-100 and also recover the booty from them, why biggercriminals are spared. The law is equal for all and hence the people involvedin massive scams of lakhs of crores of rupees, who exploited water, forest, land and mineral resources, who mortgaged the entire nation, should4 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

e lodged in the jail besides recovering the booty from them. Are thesecriminals above the law?But be alert. If we again voted these people, who damaged and malignedthe nation, to power again, the nation and the god would not forgive us.It would be `mahapap` (the biggest sin). Just remember, the nation whichdoes not learn from the history, itself becomes a history soon. Also, everynation, religion, culture and civilization themselves are responsible for itsdownfall and destruction. The history of the Nehru family of the Congressself-speaks of its plundering and irreparable damage done to the countryand hence, they are unpardonable. Till they are displaced from the power, the country would not get justice. They also needed to be thrown out of thepower so that their crime and sins could be exposed thereafter.4. The coal scam is related to 195 coal mines with 50 billion tones of coal, having international market value of Rs 400 lakh crore. The Prime Ministeris directly accused of being involved in the scam and disappearance ofthe related important files. The UPA Chairperson, who is also the partyPresident is hell-bent to save him. When the supreme leadership of theparty is in serious doubts, you could well understand the party situation, which is full of dishonest and vicious elements.5. The whole country is peeved with the wrong economic policies, scams, blackmoney, corruption, inflation and poverty, which has become an integralpart of the Congress mis-rule but the Central Government is remorseless. The nation is passing through a difficult phase of political vacuum, distress, insecurity, anarchy, lawlessness and restlessness. Lakhs of forest dwellershave been displaced from their huts, villages, anti-national forces haveraised their ugly heads and the top leadership of the country does notappear to behave in impressive, powerful manner. Even the behavior of thegreat nation with the neighboring nations is questionable. Do these meanpeoples have the right to rule this great nation?6. The disclosure of Wiki leaks and the senior official of KGB, Mitrokhin, theconspiracies of CIA and ISI and rearing of ugly heads of anti-national forcesclearly indicate that the leaders sitting at the top of the power are playingin the hands of foreign forces and many of them are even on the pay-role ofsuch powers.7. Had the Congress controlled the black money, corruption and the corruptsystem, not patronized the wrongdoings, in the economical sector, theGross Domestic Product (GDP) and the average income of each individualwould have been ten times of what it is now. The India would have been thesuper power of the world.8. The country has been mortgaged into the hands of the multi-nationalcompanies and thus pushing it towards economic slavery. The Governmentis responsible for the cruel injustice after handing over the economy tothe foreign hands, sensex to the corporate and pushing villagers, farmers, peasants, workers and the common man at the background.9. The Government has patronized conversion and acquired thousands oftemples. It has misused the `chadawa` (donation) of worth lakhs and croresin sinful activities. Every year over 1 crore bovines are sent to abattoirsand another similar number to Bangladesh, where they are butcheredmercilessly. This political party is involved in great sins.10. The great freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was insulted asJawaharlal Nehru had, at the insistence of the then British Government in theTransfer of Power Agreementdeclared Netaji as a warcriminal and in 1971, Ms IndiraGandhi in UNO supportedthe sin. The Governmenthas not grated martyr statusto Shahid-e-Azam, BhagatSingh, Chandrashekhar Azad,Rajguru, Sukhdev, PunditRamprasad Bismil, AshfaqullahKhan and other freedomfighters, who sacrificed theirlife to liberate the motherland. Not a single memorial hasbeen erected in the memory ofthe martyrs and it is sufficientto prove that the party doesnot have any respect and isungrateful towards them. Theparty has insulted the bravefreedom strugglers. No nationinsults martyrs and ancestors, who brought glory and alwaysremains indebted to them buthere, it is just opposite to it.11. When the rulers of the nationwere mighty, intelligent,far-sighted and virtuous, the nation was ruling theentire Eurasia. Due to someweak kings, we lost ourdifferent regions. Today, many `bhondus`, `pappus`or spiritless people, whodoes not have any certifiedcharacter are at the helm.Such characterless andvisionless people do notcontribute in the growth ofthe country. Even they don’thave understanding of thecountry, which was a worldleader earlier. Would youlike to hand over reins of thecountry in the hands of such`pappus` and `bhondus`?October 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 5

YourRealizationWhen doctors in UK failed, `Patanjali<strong>Yog</strong>peeth` gives new lifeParam Pujya Swamiji Maharaj,Sadar charan sparsh (Seek blessings, touching your feet)Maharajji ! I was fed-up with the problem of mygrandson Akshaya Kumar, aged 20 years. He metan accident and received serious injuries in rightarm. His muscles above elbow shrunk and a bumpdeveloped. He had severe pain from shoulderto elbow and sinusitis added more trouble to it.All the family members were upset. When thedoctors were consulted in London, they toldthat they would not be able to do much in thiscase. They also said that the operation is the onlytreatment of sinusitis. But we were not satisfiedand without undergoing operation, we returnedback. Some people suggested to get treatment inpatanjali <strong>Yog</strong>peeth following which we metAcharya Balkrishnaji Maharaj in the <strong>Yog</strong>peeth.He suggested to approach `<strong>Yog</strong>a, Shatkarmaand Research centre`. Here my grandson wasgiven proper treatment of yoga, shatkarmaand acupressure following which his conditionimproved. The growth of muscles normalized andthe severe pain also vanished. The complaint ofsinusitis too disappeared. It was no less a miracleto us. Before it,I saw you on television and had a lot of respectdue to the exhibited characters of nationalism, honesty and the immense courage. Thus, I camefrom America to visit Patanjali <strong>Yog</strong>peeth with anintention of getting an opportunity to serve thecountry.Though, sometimes ago, I had vowed not to returnIndia not that I don’t have love for the motherlandbut during my previous visit to the country, I wasvery much peeved seeing the pathetic conditionof the country. I saw Swamiji and thereafter I came out ofthe depression considering that at least someoneis working hard for the sake of the nation. Then, I came to Haridwar and visited Patanjali<strong>Yog</strong>peeth. I had hyperphysical experience, duringmy first audience to Swamiji and I don’t havewords to explain the experience. From Kuruvansh toSamrat Vikramaditya,Samrat Harshand period after himProfessor Rameshwar Mishra `Pankaj`we consider 5100 years after Mahabharat and around 3,000 years before it, according to Indian historical tracts, the capitalIf of Bharatvansh in Bharat was Hastinapur for 3000 years. The Porjitor himself had given the details of 95 emperors beforeMahabharat considering their average ruling age as 20 years though, the kings at that time lived longer. The Mahabharat era maybe describing it at a later stage but according to porjitor’s calculation also around 2000 years before Mahabharat were the gloriousperiod for the Indian civilization.Hastinapur, Ujjaini, Patliputra and before it, forthousands of years Ayodhya were the capital of mightyemperors of India. After Bharat dynasty, from 2133 BC to 1995BC (around 138 years), Pradhyot dynasty ruled a major part ofBharat. Later, Shishunag ancestry ruled a big portion of thecountry, with its capital at Patliputra. The period of the rulewas said to be for 360 years between i.e. from 1495 upto 1635Before Christ. In the Shishunag ancestry, the fourth augustking was Bimbsar, during the period of which the `parinirvana`of Lord Buddha ( 19th century Before Christ i.e. 1807 yearsbefore Christ) staged. According to Abul Fazal and Kashmiripoet Kalhan – the `parinirvana` of Lord Buddha held in the 14thCentury Before Christ. This difference of 500 years is a matter ofcalculation. In Brihdrath ancestry, 22 kings including Jarasandhruled Magadh for 1000 years. The son of Magadh king Bimbsarwas Ajatshatru and grandson was Udayan. The son of Udayanwas Nandivardhan and grandson Mahanandi. Mahanandi wasdefeated by Mahapadyanand in 1635 Before Christ. The rule ofNand dynasty continued for 100 years. The last king of Nanddynasty, Ghananand was defeated by Chandragupta Maurya in1535 Before Christ. During Nand dynasty, the limits of Magadh14 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013had expanded upto Vyas River. Maurya dynasty ruled for 316years. Acharya Panini too had the same era – 15th CenturyBefore Christ. The last ruler of Chandragupta Maurya was killedby his commander Pushyamitra Shung in 1219 Before Christ.Shung dynasty ruled for over 300 years following which Kanvasruled for 85 years on a large portion of Bharat. The last king of Kanvas dynasty, Susharma was defeated by hiscourtier Andhro. Thus, for 1161 years, the capital of the biggestempire of Bharat was Patliputra. Thereafter for 506 years,Satvahan was the biggest empire of Bharat with the capitalPrathithan (Paithan) on the banks of Godavari. The Satvahanswere defeated by second Gupta emperor Samudragupta in 328Before Christ and again established Patliputra as the capitalof Bharat, which continued till the beginning of 7th Centurymeans for a good 1000 years. Thus, Patliputra had become thecapital of the biggest empire of Bharat for over 2100 years.First, for 1161 years uninterruptedly and then after a gap of506 years, again for 1000 years. Though, India had many stateswith the tradition of accepting the patronage of mighty andbig empires.

Historical documents certifyIndian bordersIn the historical documents of ancient India, the details fromHimvant to South Mahodadhi and from Banga to Yavan regionhave been given. The details of Uddichya, Nichaya, BharatJanpad, Madhya Pradesh, Panchal, Kaushal, Prachya, Videh,Pundru, Aang, Keekat, Kashi, Vatsa, Chedi, Ushinar, Srunjay,Khandav, Matsaya, Shalva, Shibi, Yedu, Kekaya, Gandhar,Parth, Kamboj, Parsik and Yavan are enough to prove that theextension of North India, East-Westerly region has Khandavand Kurukshetra at the centre. Means the ancient Bharat wasspread from Myanmar to Kurukshetra and an equal area fromKurukshetra in west direction. Bharat spread inNorth direction too. Thus, China, Huna werethe parts of India as has been describedearlier.Kaniksha had ruled upto GreeceThe Indian Kushan emperorKaniksha had ruled in 13th eraBefore Christ. Kushan was afollower of Sanatan dharma.Purushpur (Peshawar) washis capital. The presentBactria was the part ofancient India. Bulkh, Bukhara,Gandhar, Parthia, Khotan,Chinese Turkistan – all wereparts of India and till the firstcentury of Christ, Kunal dynastywas ruling here. During Kaniksharule, Parsi, Yavan and Bauddha wereconsidered as `Sanatan dharma` andhence Kaniksha gave adequate respect toall. His sons, grand sons were all mightyemperors. The educated people, who claims to writeauthentic history of Bharat on the basis ofdisputed translation of the small portionsof extinct tracts of Yavan tourists and do not wish to learnand understand Vedic Samhita, Brahmin tracts, Upnishads,Kalpas, Shiksha shastras, Vyakaran Shastras, Jyotish Shastras,Purans, Mahabharat, Ramayan and other massive, certified anddocumental evidences could have pity on them.It is evidently proved that emperor Ashoka was anointed in1472 Before Christ. The era of Indian Yavan Naresh Milind was320 BC to 307 BC. Kumaril Bhatt was born 557 BC while AcharyaShankar was born in 509 BC and he took `sanyas` in 500 BC.He died in 477 BC. The safely kept documents in maths arehistorical evidence of it.

The glorious history from Maharaj Vikramaditya toSamrat HarshwardhanThe era of Gupt dynasty began in 327 BC. The emperorVikramaditya was born in 101 Before Christ and was anointedin 57 BC. Malav-Naresh Yashodharma defeated Mihirkul in 528Christian era, when the South Bharat was under the rule ofPallava and Chalukya dynasties. When the mighty rule of Guptdynasty was at the end, in Kalinga Maharaj Prithvivigrah andin north Maukhri dynasty were ruling. Bengal was under Gauddynasty. In the book of D Devhooti ` Harsh: ek rajnaitik adhyayan`(Oxford, Delhi) has details of the political situation from 5th to7th Centuries. During the rule of Samrat Harshvardhan ( 606-647Christ era) Kannauj was the capital of North India which was avery important city of North India till the end of 11th Century. The attack of Sikandar, wild imaginationof a padre (churchman)In the period spreading for thousands of years, Bharat wasnever attacked. In 18th century, for the first time, a padre in aseminar held under the aegis of Royal Asiatic Society in Calcutta(now Kolkata) on 28th February 1793 read an article saying thataround 2000 years ago, Alexandar had attacked India. What wasthe basis of it, when asked, the Padre Williams Jones told that it isbased on a recently printed book of an <strong>English</strong> author, in whichhe had stated this, giving reference of extinct portions of a book`Megasthenis ki Indica` Now readers could well understand thatan incident has been quoted from the extinct portion of a socalleddisappeared book that too after 2000 years of Alexander. In general discussion, we say it as pure fable. In many Indiantracts, which have been written even before Christ era upto 19thcentury does not find any mention of Alexander. In the 20thcentury, a few Indian writers, impressed with the British writersand their <strong>English</strong>, considered Jones as correct and reiterated it.Thus, there is no basis of saying that Alexander came to India. The encyclopedia Americana (Chief Editor – Barnard Keene,Publisher – American Corporation, New York, year 1829,latest edition – 1971), page number 537 – 540 finds mention ofAlexander saying `Alexander was the king of Macedonia. Hestarted from Palla town and reaches Patal and later returnedto Kabul taking the route of Makrane. After learning aboutthe valor of Bhartiya emperors and courage of their platoon ofelephants he could not muster courage of moving forward andreturned back. From the 20th century, some fools titled Sikandar as `vishwavijeta` but which world he had conquered? He had never been toRome, never fought to Saman (Shraman), never struggled withInka empire, with Brazil empire, African Karthej empire, thegreat Mangole empire, the known Gupt dynasty and the greatMaurya dynasty, then how he became `vishwa vijeta`? Onlypadres could answer. Till 11th century, no foreign invader daredto attack Bharat. This is the glorious past of Bharat. The glorious period after 6th CenturyThe great emperor Samrat Harshvardhan and sevenother mighty kingdoms of BharatThe Maukhri dynasty was under Gupts but later establishedan independent kingdom in Northern part of Bharat, whichcontinued till 6th century. Later they lost to Vardhans. The Vardhan dynasty of Staneshwar (Thaneshwar) and Kannaujhad been the powerful and impressive rulers in 6th and 7thcenturies. The great poet Banbhatt has said him as the rulerof Shrikanth state. The founder of the dynasty was MaharajPushyabhuti. the king. His elder son was Maharajadhiraj Rajyavardhanand younger son, Maharajadhiraj Harshvardhan. MaharajaPrabhakarvardhan had defeated Huns, who too were kings ofBhartiya origin. Bana has given reference of other states likeSindhu, Gandhar, lat and Malwa. He has also mentioned thestruggle of Prabhakarvardhan with Hun, Gandhar and Sindhustates.Maharaj Harshvardhan had treaty with Samrat Bhaskarvardhanof Pragjyotishpur. Maharaja Harshvardhan defeated Gaud king(Bengal Naresh) Shashank and ruled entire northern India,Gandhar and Sindhu Sauveer. The Chinese Buddhist travelerHuen Tsang had come to India in that period. This relates tofirst half of the 7th century. The king of Vallabhi (Gujarat), kingDhruvbhatt or Dhruvsen second was the son-in-law of MaharajaHarshvardhan. Harshvardhan fought battle with Pulkeshin.Harshvardhan was a great king. The other seven impressive emperors of the same era indifferent parts are as follows.1. Pandya dynasty – It ruled most of the part of Bharat from 4thcentury to 14th century for over 1800 years. Magasthenes,Marco Polo and other tourists to India always praised thedynasty.2. Pallav dynasty – The dynasty ruled from 1st to 9th century, whose empire spread from Kalinga to Kanchi.3. Chole dynasty – It ruled from 1st century to 14th centuryfor over 1350 years. The dynasty would be discussed more inthis chapter.4. Chalukya dynasty – The dynasty, with several ups anddowns ruled from 6th century to 13th century for over 650years in East-Southern part of India and even expanded toBengal, Myanmar and Andaman and Nicobar. It would bediscussed further.5. Maitrak dynasty – The Rajputs of this dynasty ruledSaurashtra, Malwa and Vindhya regions from 5th to 8thcentury.6. Parmar dynasty – In Malwa region in 10th century, themagnificent rule of Parmars developed. Maharaja Sindhurajexpanded the limits upto Banswara, Dungarpur, Malwa,Chhattisgarh, Mahakaushal, Latdesh, Aprant and Cholecountry. His son, the ultimate majestic and supreme religiousemperor Maharaj Bhoj was incredible in charity, heroism, education, science and glory. He ruled from 999 Christian erato 1055 Christian era. In his commendation, he is called as`Maharajadhiraj`. His capital was Dhara Nagari. He built themammoth Bhoj lake. Other creations and constructions inhis period include the idol of Vagdevi in Dhar, the mammothShiva temple in Bhojpur, dam at Betwa river, many ponds, water resources, beautiful sculptures, and constructionsof beautiful and massive temples in Kashmir, Chittor andSaraswati sadans in the state still remember his rule.7. The great Rashtrakoot dynasty – It brought immensedevelopment and growth in its rule from 8th century to 10thcentury. Its capital was Nashik earlier but later transferredto Malkhand. Many emperors like Dantidurg, Govind First, second, third and the fourth, Krishnadev First, second andthe third, Amoghvarna first, second, Indra first, second andthe third were the descendents of the dynasty. The dynastybuilt many glorious temples and great patrons of Kannadaand Sanskrit literature, who also built Kailashnath templein Ellora. They had their rule from Malwa to Kanchi once.Later, their representatives Parmars established a separateempire.Chalukyas ruled up to MyanmarThe dynasty of Chalukyas belonging to Vatapi means Badami(Bijapur Janpad) began with the ancestor of Manu Maharaj,Rishi Harit. Southern part of Bharat to Myanmar. It continued for 200 years. The documentation on Chalukyas of Badami is a historicaltestimony to it. Maharaja Jaisingh Prithvivallabh patronized thedynasty in which Samrat Pulkeshin first was the great emperor, who also performed `ashvamegh yagna`. Several historicaldocuments are a testimony of their bravery and courage. Thedynasty established a massive kingdom in south of Bharat.Chalukyas were the descendents of Chandravanshi kings ofAyodhya. The documentation of Samrat Veer Dhawal and SomSingh Parmar in Vikram Samvat 1287 says that Vashishtha Rishihad produced their ancestors from the `yagna vedi`. Dhaumrajand Dhandhuk are the ancestors of Chalukyas. The same fact hasbeen mentioned in Sirohi (Patnarayan) documentation of 1344Vikram Samvat in which there is mention of yagna at Arbud Giri.In the Chalukyas commendation of Badnagar in 1151, it is saidthat the Lord Brahma had produced Chalukyas from Gangajal tokill the demons.Chalukya dynasty had 21 kings and their rule began from 6thcentury Christ era to the beginning of 13th century Christ era, means a good 650 years. The rule of Pulkeshin second was spreadfrom Narmada to Kaveri though; some part of this kingdom waswon by Pallava kings afterwards. In 8th century Rashtrakutsdefeated Chalukyas and for almost 150 years, their kingdomcontinued to shrink. But in 10th century, they regained theirstrength and ruled till the beginning of 13th century. In themeantime, they formed Kalyani as their capital. One branch ofChalukyas, Eastern (Vengike) Chalukyas ruled from 7th centuryChrist era upto the end of 12th century of Christ era. They beganfrom Krishna and Godavari region of Southern part of Bharatand spread it till Burma (Myanmar), Bengal and Andamanand Nicobars. The 26th king Rajraj the great established goodrelationship with Chole kings and expanded his kingdom.Thereafter Chalukya and Chole dynasties merged with majorexpansion in the kingdom. The brave Chers and Chole dynastyThe Cher kings ruled in Kerala from 27 to 233 Christ era, meansaround 207 years. Udayan Kerala established the dynasty andEllam Kerala Eesamporai was the last ruler of this dynasty. Theyavan traveler Talemi too has described it in his memories. The Chole dynasty has been a very impressive and brave dynastyof the southern part of Bharat, which was ruling Tamilnadufrom the first century of Christ. The first king of Chole dynastywas Karikal and he fought a long battle with Singhalese (SriLanka). He constructed 150 kms long embankment on the banksof Kaveri River. The Kaveripattnam was their capital. Duringwar between Pallavas and Pandyas, the area kept changing butthey re-emerged strong in the 9th century and continued to ruletill the end of 13th century. In the Ashok’s documents too, CholeMandal has been stated as an independent state.Uninterrupted Hindu rule from1st to 20th centuryVijyalaya, Aditya, Parantak first, Rajraj first, Rajendra first,Rajaditya first, Rajadhiraj first, Veer Rajendra, Rajendra second,Rajendra third and fourth, Kulotung first, second and the thirdwere famous 14 great emperors of Chole dynasty. The kingdomof Rajraj first was spread from Mysore, Kurg, Tamilnadu and SriLanka. His capital was Thanjavur, where he built the famousShiv temple named as Rajrajeshwar. In 11th century, Choleemperor Rajendra first had a very strong navy and he conqueredAndaman and Nicobar Islands besides winning Bengal, Biharand Magadh. Though, for a brief period, he lost a few of histerritories. But In the beginning of 12th century Chalukya andChole dynasties merged and re-conquered Kalinga. In the beginning of 14th century, Chole king received a big joltin the battle fought with the commander of Allauddin Khilji butafter sometime, in the entire region, a Hindu kingdom VijayNagar was established. The other mighty rulers were from – Pallava, Pandya and Rashkootdynasty. As it has been said earlier Cher dynasty ruled Keralafor decades. Pallava dynasty ruled a big region of Tamilnadufrom 1st century to 9th century. The Pallava kings establishedMahabalipuram and constructed five magnificent temples. Theircapital Kanchi was converted into the city of temples. The Pandyas ruled from the Madura to Travancore region fromfirst century to 14th century. The capital was Madura. In 13thcentury Marco Polo returned back to India from China and inhis experiences, he has described the glory of Pandya dynasty. Thus, the region despite the first century of Christ, barring smallareas, had been under the Hindu rule for over 2000 years. Priorto it, it was under Hindu rule for over 50,000 years. §18 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

`Hind Swaraj`different visionsProfessor Kusumlata Kedia2 OctoberSpecial on{Gandhi Jayantithe book written by Gandhiji was his first important`Hind Swaraj` , ideological book. The fact that Gandhiji has alwaysexpressed his fundamental and elementary views in Gujarati languagehas been conveniently forgotten today. The voluminous `Gandhi Vagmaya`illustrating Gandhiji carries his speeches, letters, important documentarywrite-ups sent to British officers and many reports prepared by him. Buthis elementary views have always been stated in Gujarati. `Hind Swaraj` toowas initially written in Gujarati and later translated in Hindi and <strong>English</strong>.Presently, Hindi Swaraj has attracted lot of importance but different opinionsprevail as whether it is really an exhibition of the views of Gandhiji. The letter writing between Gandhiand Nehru from 1934 to 1947to exchange views has been discusseda lot. In one such letter, Nehru ji said– it is surprising that you still believein old and obsolete ideas, expressedin `Hind Swaraj`. The Congress neverconsidered the views worth discussion, leave apart believing it. And Gandhi jihad never contradicted Nehru’s thisopinion in his replies.Mahatma Gandhi is considered as theCongress leader and entire Congressin one voice claims Gandhi ji as theirleader but they also say Nehru ji asthe undisputed leader of the Congress.Nehru had clearly said that `HindSwaraj` had never been a guide to theCongress, moreover it was not worthyeven to be taken into the consideration. The present Congress generation alsocarries the same thoughts and can notclaim of following any activity in last 65years as described or suggested in `HindSwaraj`. They have never governed thestates, made policies, institutions andworked to publicize the views foundmention in `Hind Swaraj`. Thus, thequestion is that for whom , on what basisor which yardstick, `Hind Swaraj` is alegendary creation. From 1909 to 1947,the book was available but Congress didnot accept it. Moreover, they did notconsider it worth discussion.Kavivar Ravindranath Tagore,Mahayogi Shri Arvind, the guru ofGandhiji, Shri Gokhale – all consideredit as a creation of a crude mind. Goinga step ahead, some more described thebook as written by an immature brain. These were the voices of criticism and20 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

could be ignored but again there is noevidence available, which proves thathis supporters or followers had everconsidered it as a guiding force in theirlife. Had any intellectual group everadopted and accepted Hind Swaraj intheir life? All former Prime Ministersincluding Ms Indira Gandhi, MessrsJawaharlal Nehru Morarji Desai,Charan Singh, Rajiv Gandhi, NarsimhaRao, Chandrashekhar, Devegawda,Indra Kumar Gujral, VP Singh, AtalBehari Vajpayee or Man Mohan Singh– none of the Prime minister had everworked on ideas in `Hind Swaraj`. Noteven a single Chief Minister had takenany cue from the book. None of groupsin Bharat had ever tried to accept thebook, at least not to my knowledge. Here, the background in which thebook was written is needed to bediscussed. The editor of the recentlyprinted, new edition of Hind Swarajwrote ` Gandhiji started his agitationfrom Johannesburg in South Africa in1906 and visited England twice to getmediation of the British Governmentand garner their support. His first visitheld in 1906 while second one in 1909.Just remember that he had not come toIndia to find any such support. It is alsoclear that while writing `Hind Swaraj`,Gandhiji did not intend to come toIndia and work in active politics. Thus, independence of Bharat was not theobjective of `Hind Swaraj` as Gandhijihad, till 1909 not fixed any objectiveregarding the liberation of Bharat. In the book, he has mentioned `Hindki sewa`, which is the indigenousreformation of Christian concept of` Has any intellectual group or individual has everaccepted Hind Swaraj? Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, MsIndira Gandhi, Shri Morarji Desai, Shri CharanSingh, Shri Rajiv Gandhi, Shri Narsimharao, shriChandrashekhar, Shri Devegawda, Shri IndraKumar Gujral, Shri VP Singh, Shri Atal BehariVajpayee and Shri Manmohan Singh, ......none of the Prime Ministers have framedpolicies according to `Hind swaraj`.Even no Chief Minister has taken any cuefrom the book.`service`. In his autobiography, till 1939, he felt pride in accepting himselfas the biggest `rajbhakta` of British empire. Thus, it is important tounderstand the background of scripting `Hind Swaraj`. The above saideditor also remembered the statement of Gandhi ji that ` When I couldnot control myself, I wrote it`. The editor writes that Gandhi ji appears tobe over-hasty in writing this book while returning to England from SouthAfrica. Soon after reaching, he started the work and grossly involved init to the extent that he starts writing from left hand, when his right handtires. But surprise, South Africa, its race and color based discriminatorypolicies and the agitation of Indians against it found no mention in thebook. The beginning of `Hind Swaraj` has mention of the differences ofrevolutionaries with Gandhi and the fact is that revolutionaries were notactive in South Africa. Why so?The answer is because the background of `Hind Swaraj` is the capital ofEngland, London. During that period, many brave sons and daughters ofmother India were active in London like – Shri Shyamji Krishna Verma,Veer Sawarkar, Madanlal Dhingra, Madam Bhikaji Kama, Senapati Bapat,Sikandar Hayat Khan, Bhai Parmanand, Lala Hardayal, Hemchandra Dasand Gyanchandra Verma besides many others. The British Governmenthad sleepless nights due to revolutionaries. The armed revolution wasat the peak, scaring the British Government. It was the time, when thehigh-spirited tract of Veer Savarkar `Bharat Ka Pahla Swatantraya Samar1857` was belying the British historians, who had written Indian historyon the basis of half-baked and apocryphal details. The book also carriedthe details of the military might, art of war expertise, weapons caliber inIndia, which has left the British Government terrified. The Indian braverywas being discussed and the poets were scripting couplets in favor. Daringthe British in their den, Madanlal Dhingra assassinated Curzon Wylie andOctober 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 21

Shri Jawaharlal Nehru did not find the book worthyof even discussion and the same Mr Nehru wasgroomed by Gandhiji as his successor. It is said that in1946, when for the Presidentship of Congress, SardarPatel received overwhelming support from the stateunits, but Gandhiji made all efforts to annointMr Nehru as the Congress President...... because after the transformation ofpower, the Congress chief had to playa crucial role and moreover, he has tobecome the Prime Minister of Indiaafter independence.took the revenge of canning Lala Lajpatrai by the Police during a peacefulprotest. The Britons with whom Gandhiji met to muster the supportexpressed deep concern on the `violence` of freedom strugglers. BritishGovernment failed to act against revolutionaries in London due to thefollowing reasons. 1) The global circumstances forced British Governmentto pose itself as law abiding and descent. 2) International laws bound theGovernment to act cautiously. 3) The pressure of awareness in Europeancommunity, which was in favor of humanity and against colonialism. 4)In England itself, the brave Indian revolutionaries were getting massivepublic support. It is to be remembered that Gandhiji had visited London to garner supportand for the purpose, he even cooperated British in South Africa to achievehis ultimate target. When the British forces oppressed innocent boerfarmers, Gandhiji immediately rushed to the service of injured Britishjawans. Why should we forget that Gandhiji was a great political fighterand the rules of political war can not be put to test for general morality. Why this excellent political maneuvering of Gandhiji, which always keptBritish Government on alert should not be learnt by the present politicalworkers. The book has, besides revolutionaries, also found mention of `Bangbhang`agitation against which wide public opinion had generated andthe people stood protesting vigorously against the order following whichthe British Government was forced to withdraw the order. During theagitation, the Hindu Muslim unity remained unstrained and intact. Butin the book `Hind Swaraj`, Gandhiji highlighted the difference in Hinduand Muslim community and underlined it as a major reason for spreadingand strengthening British rule in Bharat. Thus, `Hind Swaraj` has becomestrategic documentation. It is very clear that the book is notrelevant today as for six to seven years, after writing the book, Gandhi ji hadnot come to India and it is also clearthat he does not intend to come toIndia for political work, while writingthe book. When I discussed it withProfessor Rameshwar Prasad Mishra, who had read Gandhi ji deeply, hetold that Gandhi ji himself had neverattached importance to the book `HindSwaraj` because Shri Jawaharlal Nehrudid not consider the book worthy ofeven discussion. Gandhi ji consideredShri Nehru as his successor and duringthe presidential election, when most ofthe regional committees of differentstates were in favor of Sardar Patel in1946, Gandhi ji made sustained effortsto anoint Nehru as the party President. The party President of the Congresshad to play a crucial role during thetransformation of the power and to holdthe post of Prime Minister thereafter.Had Gandhi ji attached importance toHind Swaraj, he would not have goneover-board to support Shri Nehru.Gandhi ji was not incautious or carelessperson. He was not a non-politicalperson too. Shri Mishra told that `HindSwaraj` was given importance in theyear of his 125th birth anniversary. It was during a massive agitation, when a group of Gandhians opposedthe Congress and activated in thefavor of Shri Jaiprakash Narayan. TheGandhian leaders opposed Shri Nehru,Smt Indira Gandhi and the Congressand highlighted that neglect to `HindSwaraj` to prove the point that theCongress has no faith in Gandhi ji.22 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

And after 1980, Hind Swaraj was givenimportance to reap immediate politicalbenefits. This point raised by ShriMishra was worth considering.Gandhi ji lived a committed lifefor the people and to highlight hispolitical maneuvering, ignoring hiscommitment is not `Gandhi bhakti`.People, with better understanding ofpolitics, if write something on Gandhiji,it would be helpful in establishingswaraj in Hindustan. It is not thatpolitics is easy task though, the personwhom you are fighting is standingright in front of you. The words saidare weapons having deep meaning ofdifferent layers.Had Gandhi ji, who advised Jewish tosurrender before Hitler, not incurredthe wrath of Congress to distributepamphlets encouraging recruitmentsof Indians in the army? This was theservice of Gandhi ji to the countryand his life has become a message toeveryone. It would be unjustified to make effortsto understand the basic objectives andideals of Gandhi ji on the basis of whathe had preached in `Hind Swaraj`. Thetop-most agenda of Gandhi ji was theliberation of the country but there is noclear available opinion regarding, howthe country would run after achievingthis task. Though, he had given manyvaluable suggestions, helpful in goodgovernance. He had never propagatedhimself as messiah or prophet. He alsodid not consider himself as the topmost leader of the country in his era.On the contrary, he said that SwamiShraddhanand was a tall leader ascompared to him. He put Swami Shraddhanand ji at par with Jesus Christ. He had lot of respect for Mahamana Madanmohan Malviya and the biggestpoint is that he had deep faith in the democracy. His concept of democracywas not the present Parliamentary system. His stress was on Panchayatisystem with village and community panchayats in the ascending orderof the representation. He wants to have a national Panchayat in place ofthe present Parliament. He was utterly critical Parliament in the presentsystem but he did not want to thrust upon his opinion on the country. It is also a fact that people, who propagated him as father of the nationmeans a prophet, do not have true admiration and devotion towards him. They just want to exploit his name for their petty political gains. Theydid not follow Gandhian philosophy. Gandhi ji had always said that `theconcept of non-violence he is propagating is his concept. The Indiancivilization and culture did not accept such non-violence philosophy. All the god- goddess in Hindu `dharma` have weapons and bravery isthe characteristic of Hinduism. I want to create a non-violent world infuture and in that context, the philosophy propagated by me could be astrong ground, provided each nation, society and the group accepts it.Gandhi ji himself admitted that even Congress has not accepted his nonviolencephilosophy. The Congress as their strategy only accepted noncooperationmovement. To hold peaceful opposition was the compulsionof the Congress in the given circumstances as British had through IndianArms Act in 1858, held Indians impotent. Presently, Indians does not haveweaponry power but equipped with the moral-courage and will-powerare competent enough to face the armed and demonical power of Britishrule. I want to awaken such bravery in Indians`.Hence, it is clear that Gandhi ji was very practical politician and hismain motive was the liberation of the nation. Friendship with British andtheir opposition, both are strategies to achieve the ultimate goal as thereis no elementary difference in two strategies as friendship was for thecountry and the humanity and opposition was also for the same purpose. On clearly understanding the objective, we could understand the depthof the logic behind amity and strong opposition of the British. People, who consider Gandhi as a `Paigambar` and want to run a sect shouldexperiment it at international level. Transforming the nation as impotent(said by Gandhi ji himself), coward, soft, lack of moral firmness, modestand pathetic in the name of Gandhi ji is betrayal to not only him but withthe country as well. Hind Swaraj shall be seen in context of the objectives, principles and the nationalism of Gandhi ji. To consider `Hind Swaraj` asBible is a foolish effort. It is an important political document but not anapocalyptical book. §October 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 23

Ayurveda’sdiagnosis ofdiseases check-upsAcharya BalkrishnaIn Ayurveda,on the basis of symptoms treatment is carriedbut for proper and effective treatment, there areother ways too.1) Nidan panchakFive main causes have been considered for a disease, which are`nidan` (treatment), `purvaroop` (its history), `roop` (presentsymptoms), `upshaya` (post-treatment symptoms), `samprapti`(relief).2) `shatkriyakal`Due to different seasons, weathers in the world and the diseasescaused due to this variation are diagnosed after collecting detailsof its history, intensity, affects, parts of the body, expression, covertures and nuance. This knowledge is called `shatkriya kal`.3) Ashtvidhya parikshaOn the basis of the gastric problems, for the identification ofthe disease, its curability or incurability, 8 tests are performedafter examining the nerve and this process is called `ashtvidhpariksha`.On the basis of the diagnosis results, the medical practitioner getsthe details of the nature of thedisease. If the doctor could concludedefinite details of the disease, itsnature, its origination (`dosha`,`dhatu`, `mal`, `strot` and `agni`),then Ayurveda says that this issufficient for the first step. Besidescollecting the above details, a doctorshould have to examine the otherfacts like a) reasons of the disease2) advance symptoms of the disease3) symptoms of the actual disease4) `Upshaya`, means administeringthe proper medicine and suggestingproper food with dos and don’ts.5) Pathogenesis means howsymptoms of the disease generate. No disease appears instantly but itgives lots of indication in the bodybeforehand. First-of-all, the diseasehas deep relationship with the body.Due to initial reasons of the disease, some symptoms are produced in the24 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

ody on the basis of which expert`vaidhyas` could guess about theimpending disease. Slowly, thesymptoms gets aggravated andspread in the body. On the basis ofthese aggravated symptoms, thedisease could be confirmed.1) Reasons and the treatment of thedisease Reasons, medium, cause, source are the words in Ayurveda, used to diagnose various diseases. The main reasons behind diseasesare irregular and improper diet(external reasons), `vata`, fluid, blood and other metals, `purishmutra` and impurities (internalreasons) and `rajas` and `tapas`,which are human habits. Thesereasons are called as `nidan`. Poison, weapon, fire, bacteria and trauma, they are also reasons of diseases andcalled as `nidan`. These elementshave been categorized in fourgroups.a) `Sannikat factors (Immediatefactors) – Means, which instantlycause disease.b) `Viprakrishta` factors – Thereasons, which take little time toattack a human body.c) `Vyabhichari` factors – Meansthe reasons, which are notdirectly responsible for thedisease but play an importantpart in it. Like – tension in thelife, improper life-style.d) `Pradhanik` factors – Means, which have immediate affect, like strong poison. All these factors have been furthersub divided in two groups.a) Exogenous factors – Under this category, opposite diet, activities, life style and seasons have been placed, which helps in the causeof the disease.b) Endogenous factors – In this category falls the `doshas` andmetals in the body, which cause diseases. The reasons of the diseases have been categorized in three groups.a) Intellectual blasphemy – When problems occur in thememory, patience and mind and he suffers stress, depressionand other tension-oriented psychological diseases. He performsmany improper activities. Such person is said to be a victimof intellectual blasphemy. Resultantly, all the three `doshas`exaggerate.b) Asatmyandriyartha- sanyog (The organs in contact withharmful subjects) – Under this category fall the subjects withwhich the organs like eyes come in contact, besides doing theirnatural job.c) Season and adversity of time – The seasons are also calledas period or results. If any special season has any specific andintense adverse affect, it is called the adversity of the season.Like, intense heat conditions in summer, intense cold conditionsin winter or excess rainfall in rainy season, than the period of theseason is said to be behaving extremely. And if opposite startshappening in the season, it is called `mithyayog` like rainfall inwinter season, cold conditions in summer season. In face of suchadversities, various diseases attack a person.2) Premonitory signs and symptomsIf the `vatadi dosha` have been accumulative in the body, it couldcause problems in the metals of the body, sources and `panchkagnis`.Now before the disease comes out, it passes from different phases. In the process, they accumulate at some particular part, fromwhere indications start coming out. On the base of the symptoms,a `vaidhya` could predict, which disease is likely to assault thehuman body. These symptoms are called as pre-indications. Beforefever, tiredness, unease, watering in eye, heaviness in the body, pain, yawning, reluctance for meals, cold, blindness before eyes, tastelessness and others indicate that fever is likely to come.a) General – The pre-symptoms, which indicate the general natureof the disease, are known as normal pre-indications like tirednessbefore fever.b) Specific – The pre-symptoms, which give definite and actualOctober 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 25

tendency of the disease, are called specific pre-indication symptoms.3) Manifested signs and symptomsThe symptoms, which indicates intensity and gravity of the diseaseis called manifested signs and symptoms. Means, when any fever isdiagnosed and all parameters express its gravity like temperature, frequency of lose motions, cough and others.4) Exploratory therapyThis is the step to ascertain the exact disease, in which variousmedical systems are applied. When the `vaidhya` on the basis ofsymptoms and indications fails to trace the exact disease, it takesthe help of exploratory therapy. It could be considered as a test orexperiment. In this test, various permutations and combinations areused, even opposite to the reason and symptoms of the disease areused. The `upshaya` are of 18 types. `Hetu-viprit ahar, hetu-vipritaushad,hetu-viprit vihar, vyadhi viprit aushad, vyadhi viprit ahar, vyadhi viprit vihar, hetu-vyadhi viprit aushad, hetu-vyadhi vipritahar, hetu-vyadhi viprit vihar, hetu vipritarthkari aushad, hetuvipritarthkari ahar, hetu vipritarthkari vihar, vyadhi vipritarthkariaushad, vyadhi vipritarthkari ahar, vyadhi vipritarthkari vihar,hetu-vyadhivipritarthkari aushad, hetu-vyadhivipritarthkari aharand hetu-vyadhivipritarthkari vihar`.5) PathogenesisFrom accumulation of the disease upto its affect ( could be effect of one,two or `tridosh`), spreading in entirebody or one part, like stomach, spleen, liver, skin, uterus etc andthe place, from where it emerges, the details of the sequence is calledpathogenesis. Means, collectionof the details of the symptoms ofdiseases is called `jati` or `aagati`.Pathogenesis has six types. Theknowledge of the origination of thedisease is `jati` while knowledgeof its symptoms are `aagati`. Thediseases are mainly of two types –endogenous and exogenous.Endogenous diseases –When the vitality of the bodyfails to defeat the elements of thedisease and when they overpowerit, endogenous diseases are beingdeveloped. When sources areblocked due to `aam` and resultantly,`dosha` gets angered, and with thecombination of both, disease attackshuman body.`Aagantuj`Due to shock or wound, snakebite, mosquito, scorpion and otherreptiles, due to assault of lion, tiger or other fierce animals, firstwounds, toxin appears. Later,`aam`, `dosha`, `dhatu` and sources, all combined to form a seriousproblem. In endogenous diseases,it is unconsciousness and then thedisease is expressed. §26 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

`Shanti Sar`Swami Ramdev<strong>Yog</strong>rishi Swami Ramdev ji has interpreted Gita as `Gitamrit`.For the readers of `<strong>Yog</strong> <strong>Sandesh</strong>`, we are presenting itin the series.... Editor. When asked about the death in `dakshinayan`, the description in Vedantsutra says `atshchayanepi dakshine` (4/2/20)According to it, even after death in `dakshinayan period`,`gyani` (learned) person proceed through suryalokmarg`, i.e. `davyan marg. For such people, the period of deathis immaterial. When asked further that in Gita (8/23 to 26),the Arjuna has been told something else, in reply it is said –<strong>Yog</strong>inah prati cha smaryate smarte chaite. (4/4/21).For yogi, the period has been described in varnan smriti(smart – sect). For `gyani` the time has no bar. Clearly, thedescription of the period is according to the tracts anddepends on the circumstances. In the 8th`adhyaya` the concept of `aksharbrahma` is described. It isalso suggested to go into `Samadhi`, when the time of deathnears and leave the body while chanting `Om`. But it is verydifficult to follow the sense of `akshar brahma` as it needs`Samadhi` and when death nears it is not possible to perform`Samadhi`, particularly, when the person is ill. Keeping thisdifficult in mind, an easy path has been suggested in thischapter, which is simple to follow for all and everyone, means the route of `bhakti`. Special on{Valmiki jayanti`Valmiki Ramayan`gives multi-dimensionalmessage to the human beingJaishankar Mishra `Savvyasanchi`Joint Editor/Head of the department – <strong>Yog</strong> <strong>Sandesh</strong>, Patanjali <strong>Yog</strong>peeth, Haridwar.any `maha kavi`, medium and message both are equally importantFor and Valmiki has done justice to both of them. Any art expressesitself impressively, when its artist remains non-coherent. Likewise, thecommunication of an element gets broaden, when it is commissioned andnot contemplated. Exactly the same happened with Maharshi Valmiki. Hehimself would not have thought that pain with the merciless blow of afowler and disturbed by the trouble of crane, his love and affection-filledheart would take shape of an all-time popular tract, which promotes thebasic human values. He himself might have been surprised, as his creationhas found place in the list of glorious publications of the world. His messagehas become an all-time relevant and popular. The two main elements, comingout of the subjects of Ramayanaare building of humanityand avoidance of killing. Tohighlight these two issues inhis script, Maharshi Valimikdrew inspiration from thebeautiful watercourse of TamsaRiver and painful separation ofcranes. Preciously, these twofactors played an importantrole in encouraging MaharshiValmiki to write Ramayana. The artistic expression inthe tract is self-speaking andhence Valmiki has never beena preacher or teacher in thetract but expressed himself withthe help of the characters. Thecharacters too express their andthe writer’s point through theirwords, thought and character.Sometimes, there is descriptionof general facts and principletruths but it too emerged out ofthe circumstances. There are some model characterslike Rama, Bharat, Laxman,Sita, Sumitra, Sumantra, Guha,Jatayu, Shabari and Hanuman, who present different humanvalues in idealistic manner.Their conduct forces the readerto think himself, yes; a modelson shall be like that has beendescribed by Maharshi Valmiki.Or a devoted father, loving hischildren, love for brother, wifecommitted to the husband, spirit of service of a woman, whonever complaints of anyone andalways readies to help others,an intelligent and enthusiasticadvisor, a always helping28 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

friend in good or bad times,an assistant, who always caresfor the security of his masterthan his own luxury, saints,`mahatma`, who never cared forany pleasure and an individual,a competent person who alwaysperforms his duty with fullcommitment and dedicationhave been described well. Allsuch characters are found inRamayana.Ramayana is basically a familytract. Its basic theme is a family, which has strong foundation ofsocial harmony, glory to humanbeing and the deep sentimentsof brotherhood. It has threebrothers` couple – Ram andBharat, Bali and Sugrive andRavana and Vibhishana. It hasthree life partners in – Ram-Sita, Bali-Tara and Ravana -Mandodri. Sita - Ram is a modelcouple with integrated match,Bali and Tara have completeharmony, despite attitudinaldifferent and though, Ravana andMandodri have vast differenceof ideals, there is no lack ofmutual affection, good faith andgenerosity. Of the three womendescribed above- Sita, Taraand Mandodri, Sita is the mostrespected character but she hadto suffer the most. Tara wasthe happiest while Mandodriexpressed over self-pride. Theirbehavior, nature and charactercould be guiding force for allthe human beings. It is ironythat entire world worships Sitaand Ram, considering them as amodel couple but the turbulentRamayana is basically a family tract. Its basictheme is a family, which has strong foundation ofsocial harmony, glory to human being and the deepsentiments of brotherhood......It has three brothers` couple – Ramand Bharat, Bali and Sugrive and Ravanaand Vibhishana. It has three life partnersin – Ram-Sita, Bali-Tara andRavana - Mandodri.married life like theirs is not acceptable to anyone. It showsthat in their married life, tolerance level had gone too high. Iftaking pains ensure public welfare then endurance becomes`tapa`. Valmiki has, in his creation given the same message tothe mankind.Ramayana also propagates the truth that keeping balance ofmind in most adverse conditions could save family, societyand the human lives. Kaikayi had incited flame in Ayodhya andbrought turbulence in its royal family but Ram and Bharat, withtheir balanced attitude saved the situation. Vibhishana, with hisfarsightedness rehabilitated Lanka. Hanumana, with his politicaltolerance and positivity re-established the rule of justice andsystem in Kishkindha. The great kings like Janak, Dusserath,Rama and Bharat, with their management could become a guideto the administrators in the field of workforce management andmanpower utilization. The incompetent administrators, likeRavana and Bali could give message to the public that poorlyarticulated schemes, plans or intolerant politics could proveself-destructive and self-inflicted. Similarly, the flag bearers ofpeace and prosperity could also consider Ramayana as a guidefor human resources development.Ramayana has, another important aspect, which establishes itto the highest level of spirituality. People believe that equippedwith Vedic and poetic potential, Valmiki Ramayana has takengist of Vedas and its glory to the mankind. `Sunderkand`is veryrich in giving strong message to the people. When great seers, commanders, mothers, brothers and other dedicated citizengathered to take Rama back to Ayodhya, Lord Rama addressesthe people and expresses his views on the eternal values ofthe life. The address, though brief but a classic example ofOctober 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 29

his matured thoughts. Those who want to go in deep of suchthought, Ramayana is a treasurer as several such instances arefound in the tract. In fact, Maharshi Valmiki’s work has inspiredinnumerable litterateurs. For common man too, Maharshi Valmiki has given variousinspiring examples, which could play important roles inresolving day-to-day problems. Valmiki has used words`vakyagya`, `vakya visharad`, vakya kovid`, `vak sarthi` . `vakvidambar` etc and its objective is to clarify the role of `vaksanskar` in the routine life. If the people are competent toexpress their opinions in descent and competent language, then domestic, social, national or even global problems couldbe resolved. `Param Pavani` Sita, in a context asked Ravana, whether there is no good person to show you the right moralepath and if there is any, you are not paying any attention tohis advice. It is a long standing question, which needs to bepondered upon by all the responsible persons and consideringthat the question has been put to them, search for the properreply. In Vak Ramayana of Valmiki Ramayana, `vak sanskriti`means culture to speak, has found very crucial place. In fact, Ramayana has presented two cultures prominently. One is of accumulation and pleasure while other one is ofrestraint and discipline. The first culture was flourished byRavana while Dusseratha followed the second one and hence, they could be named as `dashmukh` culture and `Dusseratha`culture. Dushmukh, with all his 10 heads, wanted everything forhimself while Dusseratha restricted all his 10 `indria` (senses)in control and thus, proceeded in right direction. No questionof wandering or deviating from the right path. The strugglebetween these two opposite cultures is the main reason for thedifferent problems, which ultimately endanger peace. In Lanka,Kishkindha or Ayodhya, three dimensions of this problem comeupand in all three circumstances, cultured persons like Rama,Bharat, Sugrieve and Vibhishan struck balance and thus savedvaluable human lives. This cultural conflict is not a problem tothe safety and prosperity of the human being but a warning toit. Ramayana presents its solution.Ramayana comprises of many other cultures – from `Veda`culture to `Geedh` (vulture) culture. It is surprising that justwith the touch of Valmiki, vultures (Jatayu and Sampati) reachthe highest level of spirit of self-less service to the mankind, sacrifice and intelligence. In Ramayana, Maharshi Valmiki notonly highlighted human culture but also stressed on natureculture.`Akash`(space), `vayu`(air), `agni` (fire), `jal` (water)and `prithvi` (earth)- thesefive basic elements also findeminent place in Ramayana. The king of Ishwakuvansh, belongs to `suryavansham`and hence, `surya` (the sun)himself appeared before Ramain the battle field and ensuredhis victory. Sugrieve has beensaid to be the son of sun, whileBali, the son of Indra. Hanumanis said to be the son of `vayu`.God `agni` appeared beforeRama and other deities during`agni pariksha` of Sita andcertified her purity. `Samudra`appeared before Rama as humanbeing and apologize for hiscompulsion but suggested waysto cross over. Sita is said to bethe daughter of the motherearth and lastly disappears inthe earth. Thus, all five basicelements are characters in theValmiki Ramayan – in visible orinvisible forms. In humanizingthe nature, the script writerhas the intention that hisreaders could understand theimportance of mutual symbolicrelationship between the humanbeings and the nature. For human being, the message ofRamayana is multi-dimensional.This tract, from any point ofview could give a lot to the worldbe it knowledge, experience, education and much more. Ithas vast stuff as compared towhat any living creature – malefemale,animal-birds and otherscreature could think about. §30 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

It falls in the month of Ashvin(quar), on the `dashmi` of `Shukla oaksha`. Lord Ramahad killed demon Ravana the same day. Therefore,it is celebrated as a festival of victory of good overbad and hence the day is known as `Vijya Dashmi`.Dussehra falls on one of the three most auspiciousdates of the year, the other two are `pratipada` of`chaitra shukla` and `kartik shukla`. In Patanjali <strong>Yog</strong>peethproduction of tomato seedswith `swadeshi` technologyDr. Rajesh JainGaushala Farm, Patanjali <strong>Yog</strong>peeth, Haridwar.botanical name lycopersiconTomato, esculentum, always found importantplace in the dishes. In 16 th century, in Europe, it wasfirst produced in Spain. In our country Portugueseare credited to introduce tomatoToday multi-national companies aresupplying low quality tomato seedsin higher prices, falsely assuring higherproduction. But farmers could themselvesproduce `desi` tomato seeds in their farmhouses in the manner as suggested in thisarticle. The crop cycleTomato + lady finger + maizeTomato + lady finger + hyacinth beanTomato + bottle gourd + bitter gourd.ClimateTomato could be produced in both seasons- winter and summer. For seed production,18-25 degree temperature is better. Lycopeneis an important element in tomato and itsproduction reduces when temperature isabove 26 degrees and below 10 degrees, whichultimately affects the quality of tomato. The temperature and the intensity of lightalso have deep impact on the redness andbitterness. Hence, in winter season the tomatois tasteful with attractive red color.Soil – For the production of tomato loam(domat) soil, with proper drainage system isnecessary. If the PH of the soil is less than 6,mix 6 kgs of lime every acre of land beforetoiling it.How to prepare farmThe first toiling of the farm land shall bedone with `mitti palat` (alter the soil layer)and thereafter with domestic plow toil it 3-4times. The farm shall be prepared such thatat no place, there is water-logging. The toilingshould be done in a manner that the soil isloosened. Now add 3 to 4 tones of compostfertilizer in each acre of farmland.FertilizerSince, the crop of tomato is for seedsproduction, the soil needs nutritious elementsin proper quantity and proportion. Add1000 litre of `sanjivak khad` per acre duringplanting of sapling and irrigation. After 21days, add 100 litres of `sanjivak` or 1000 litre32 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

io slurry or `jeevamrit` prepared of 10 kgs ofcow dung. After one week of tomato growing, again add 500 liters of sanjivak fertilizer` peracre.Time of bowingAccording to the north India climate Februaryis the best time for production of tomato seed.Preparation of nurseryNormally, for each acre 200 grams of seedsare sufficient. The weight of `desi` seeds ismore as compared to hybrid or improvedseeds and hence 1 gram counts around 270seeds. For nursery, the prepared bed shouldbe 1 meter in breadth, 8 meters in length, with20 cm depth means a bed of 1 x 8 should beprepared, which is sufficient for sowing 200grams of seeds.`Beej shodhan` (seed treatment) beforesowing in nurseryBefore sowing of tomato seeds, its treatmentis needed for which take half-a-litre of cowurine, mix 100 grams of ash, 50 grams limeand 300 ml of water. Later, stir it well forover two minutes. Put the tomato seeds in acotton cloth and dip in the solution for overthree minutes. Later dry seeds in shadow andnow seeds are ready to be sown. The seedtreatment increase germination percentageand reduces the threat of various diseasesin the nursery. The most common disease is`jad sadan` (decaying of roots), but with thetreatment, its probability decrease to a largeextent. The transplantation in main farmsWhen the age of plants is 4 – 6 weeks, digdifferent pits in the main farm and transplantthe prepared plants. The gap between each pitshall be nearly 2 feet while depth of each pit, more than 6 inches. In each pit, add 1.5 kg ofcompost fertilizer and 300 grams of `neemkhali` (neem cake) and then place the plants. The best time is the evening as plants do notwither, with death percentage less than 2percent while in the plants, planted in themorning period, it is over 5 percent.Irrigation systemThe irrigation in the production of tomatoseeds needs much care. Excess watering couldcause into fungus and damage the plants.Water logging is also harmful as it stops freeflow of natural air, which holds the propergrowth of plants. Thus, irrigate only whenmoisture is needed in the farm.Nirai- gudai (Interculture)In seed production, inter-culture assumesgreat importance. After irrigation, continueinter culture till incrustation develops –after first inter culture, spread dry leavesof sugarcane plants and mango tree but becautious that the layer shall not be thick orthin than 5 cm.October 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 33

The advance farming of indigenous variety of tomato at the `Gaushala` farm in Patanjali <strong>Yog</strong>peethSupport the crop –Supporting fruit laden tomato plants adds upthe production. When the age of plants is 40-50 days, place 3.5 feet long sticks of bamboo, arhar (yellow lentils) to support them. Thissaves plants from high- velocity wind as theydo not fall to the ground and their stems, withfruits are safe.Pest control in tomato cropsTambaku ki sundhi (caterpillar)This caterpillar extensively damages crops. The insects attack, when the crop is 45-50days old. It damages leaves and the stems ofthe plants.TreatmentFor the treatment of this problem, sprinkle`hingadi` pesticide twice a week. This savescrops from `tambaku ki sundi`. The treatmentshall start the same day, when the caterpillarsare spotted.`Fali chedak keet` (Pod borer moth)This is common insect attacking tomato crop. The larvas of the insects penetrate into thefruits and eat the pulp. Thus, seeds are notproduced in adequate quantity. The qualityof the crop is also affected.TreatmentFor the safety of the crop, sprinkle `karanjadi`pesticide on the crops twice a week, whenthe fruits start ripening and gets redness. But if the larva has already entered the fruit, sprinkle `nimbadi` pesticide daily for five daysand the crop gets protected.`Parnakuchan` (Leaf curl)It is very dangerous disease, which gets spreaddue to a special virus, which is also calledwhite fly. Due to the disease, the size of theplant does not grow, leaves become bulgedand uneven. Flowers and fruits do not grow tothe plants, affected with such disease.TreatmentTo get protection from the disease, whilesapling the plant put `neem khali` (neemcake) and blue vitriol (in crystal form and notin chemical form) in the pit. It is very muchbeneficial.Or put 300 mm neem cake and 200 gms finely34 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

grinded blue vitriol in the pit, when thedisease starts besides sprinkling `nimbadi`pesticide in the evening, three times a week.`Jad-gath sutrakutri`It is the most damaging disease for the crop, which is caused due to meloidogyne. Theroots of the plants gets swelled means, smallcircular structures develop in the roots andhence, it is unable to take nutritious elementfrom the soil. This hinders the developmentof the plant. The leaves get wilted and plantsremain dwarfed.TreatmentThe natural farming department of Patanjali<strong>Yog</strong>peeth has invented a miraculous techniqueto control the disease and the cost is just Rs1200 per acre. While transplantation, use neem cake, rosewood or `gammari` wood dust and`karanjadi` and `hingadi` bio pesticides. In a pit, keep 300 grams of neem cake, 200grams `gammari`/rosewood powder, 100 mm`karanjadi` pesticide and 100 mm `hingadi`pesticide.Plucking fruitsSince, the crop of tomato is for the seeds, don’t pluck fruits in unripe form. Let itripe completely and then only collect it.The technology, given by natural farmingdepartment of the Patanjali <strong>Yog</strong>peeth couldgive 60-70 kg output per acre of which 7 to 7.5kg of healthy and pure seeds of `desi` tomatocould be collected. §Note – Tomato is a self-pollinated crop but 30percent of the pollination is carried by the insects.Hence for two types of seeds – basic andcertifi ed, keep distance of 50 meter and 25 metersrespectively.Golden rulesfor betterhealthl Early to bed and early to rise (before sun rise)is better for the health.l Being healthy does not means, health of thebody alone but soul and mind should also behealthy and happy.l After waking up in morning remember yourdeity for 10-15 minutes, which keeps peace ofmind for the entire day.l For good health, regimen diet shall be taken.A person, who takes such diet do not need anytype of medicine.l While taking food, keep peaceful and happy. In the entire day, keep time of taking mealsreserve only for yourself.l Take meals on a fixed time daily. In the medical world, allopaths particularly, believe thatonce RA turns into positive in theblood, it is impossible of situationreversing back. Hence, the patientof arthritis believes that when allthe doctors are concluding the samething, it is really not possible forhim to get cured. In contrast, on thebasis of experience and successfulresults, it can be concluded thatarthritis is a completely curabledisease. All deficiencies in theblood, related to RA, uric acid andhemoglobin normalized. This, I amsaying on the basis of my severalyears’ of experience authentically. We have all laboratorial tests of thepatients suffering with arthritis, before the treatment and after thetreatment, preserved, which clearly shows that after the treatmentthe symptoms vanish slowly and the patient regains health. The homely medicinal treatment of arthritisl Take up to three cloves of garlic and swallow it empty stomach inthe morning, after cutting it in small pieces. 21 October{Azad Hind Fauz dayAzad Hind Government establishedin Singapore temporarilyThe sacred fight forindependence wouldcontinue till mylast breath – NetajiJaishankar Mishra `Savyasacchi`historical convention of Hindustan Swatantra League was summoned atThe 10.30 am on October 21, 1943 at Cathey building in Singapore in which variousrepresentatives from East Asia participated in large number. Shri Ras Bihari Boseread out welcome address while Colonel Chatarjee gave details of the secretariatreport. When Netaji came on the dais and gave his fiery speech, the audience wasspell-bound for around one-and-a-half hour. In Hindustani, he underlined the importanceof establishing temporary Azad Hind Government. His speech was translatedin Tamil by the well known lawyer Mr Chidambaram. When Netaji took an oath forthe loyalty for Hindustan, entire hall reverberated with clapping, slogan shouting and applause. He wasso overwhelmed and sentimental thatmany times, he could not speak. Hisvoice was evident that each word wascoming out directly from the depthof his heart. Sometimes at high andsometimes at low pitch, he read out`In the name of god, I swear thatSubhash Chandra Bose would fight toliberate Hindustan and its 38 crorescountrymen and continue the fighttill last breath of my life`. He pausedhere. It appeared that he would cometearing here. Each one of us, presentin the hall were repeating his words. We all were trying to move forward toget closer to the Netaji, having whitemarble like image. Everybody wasengrossed in his personality and totalpeace prevailed in the hall. Controllingtears, everybody was waiting for Netajito get controlled and speak further. And came his serious voice again,as some bell in church was ringing. He said ` I would always be servingHindustan and safeguard its welfare. This would be my biggest duty`.Even after independence, I would beready to shed last drop of my bloodto maintain that independence. Thenthe excitement prevailing in the hallwent down. Then other members ofthe temporary Government cameforward and took the oath. ` I, in thename of god swear that to liberatemy country Hindustan and its 38 corepeople, I would be totally committedto my leader Netaji Subhash ChandraBose and to achieve the objective, I amready to sacrifice everything includingmy life`.38 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

Then Netaji made declaration, which would always be a prominentdocument of Indian history. He said `after being defeated first time at thehands of British in Bengal in 1857,Indians fought tough and fierce battlefor almost 100 years. The history of theperiod speaks of several examples ofmatchless bravery and self-sacrifice.In these pages of history names ofSirajudulla, Mohanlal of Bengal, HaidarAli, Tipu Sultan and Vellu Thampi ofSouthern India, Appa Sahib Bhonsle,Peshwa Bajirao of Maharashtra,Begums of Avadh, Sardar Shyam SinghAtariwala of Punjab and finally thequeen of Jhansi, Laxmi Bai, Tatya Tope,Dumrao’s king Maharaj Kuwar Singhand Nana Sahib have been written ingolden letters.Unfortunately, our ancestors could notguess that British are dangerous for theentire country and hence, they did notform any joint forum to combat them. Finally, when Indians could assess andrealize the dangerous situation, theyorganized under the flag of BahadurShah and fought a battle. In 1857,British disarmed Indians forcibly andmany were subjected to terrorismand beastly treatment and thus, theykept low for sometime. But after theconstitution of Rashtriya MahasabhaCongress in 1885, the people woke-upagain. From 1885 till the conclusion ofthe last world war, Hindustani peopleadopted all means to get liberatedlike `andolan`, publicity, boycott offoreign goods, terrorism, damagingproperty and finally armed revolution. But all efforts proved futile. Lastly, in1920 when people were in dark andsearching for an effective weapon,Mahatma Gandhi came-up with non-cooperation and disobedience movement. Thus, the people not only gotpolitical awareness but they re-organized politically. They could speak inone voice and work with common goal. From 1937 to 1939, 8 states sawCongress Government, and their success proved that Hindustan could handleadministration well. Thus, the ground for the last battle of liberation ofHindustan was prepared before the present world war.The British Government has, disillusioned Indians with their shiftinessand craftiness and the countrymen were under severe threat of starvation. The British Government has lost all goodwill and the nation was turbulent. Now to break the last barrier, just a spark is needed, which would be ignitedby this army, fighting for the independence of the country. Now when thedawn of independence is near, it is the duty of Indians to form a temporaryGovernment and wage final battle under the flag of that Government. Since, most of the leaders of Hindustan are in jail and people are rendered armless,it is the duty of the Bhartiya Swatantra Sangh of Eastern Asia to constitutea temporary Azad Hind Government. The temporary government has the right to demand from the people ofHindustan that they remain committed towards it and extend full supportand cooperation. The Government guarantees the citizen of religious libertywith equal rights and equal opportunities to all. The Government also declaresto make sustained efforts for the peace and prosperity of the country andwould behave uniformly with all the sons of the country. In past, the divisivepolicies had created differences but the situation would be altered. In the name of god, in the name of past generations, which bound all castesin one tag and in the name of martyrs, who laid a tradition of bravery andsacrifice, we call on the people of the country to come together under ourflag and fight for the independence of the country. I call on the countrymento wage final battle against British and their Indian friends and continue tofight with valor, courage and patience till enemy is not displaced from ourland and Hindustan is not declared independence.Representing temporary Azad Hind Government, the people who signed onit are as follows - Subhash Chandra Bose, head of the Government, PrimeMinister, Defense minister and Foreign Affairs minister. Captain Laxmiwomenorganization, SA Ayyar – publication and publicity, LieutenantColonel AC Chattarjee – Revenue, Lieutenant Colonel SS Bhagat, LieutenantColonel JK Bhonsle, Lieutenant Colonel Guljar Singh, Lieutenant Colonel MZKiyani, Lieutenant Colonel AD Loknathan, Lieutenant Colonel Aihsan Quadir,Lieutenant Colonel Shahnawaz- all representatives of the armed forces, AMSahai, Secretary, Ras Bihari Bose- supreme Advisor, Karim Gani, DevnathDas, DM Khan, Y Yeleppa, J Thiti, Sardar Ishwar Singh, all advisors and ANSarkar, legal advisor. §October 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 39

times in one minute but reduce the cycle to 10-12 perminute. Try to take and release breath, as it happensin deep sleep, slow and deep. It is said that the age ofa human being depends on the breath cycle. It is upto you to complete it in 60-70 years or slowly in 100years. `<strong>Yog</strong>is` hold breath for longer period during`pranayam` or `Samadhi` and live for longer life.Just practice taking deep breath and releasing itDeep breath means longand sound breath. Thebreathing cycle of a humanbeing in the life is 13-14times per minute but makeeffort that it is reduced to10-12 cycles per minute.slowly. This can not be done instantly but wheneveryou remember it, start practicing and in six monthsor year, it would be habitual. The action would notonly increase the age but also cleanse the blood. It alsokeeps body away from small diseases, bettering thedigestion system. While working in day or anytime, when you remember take deep breaths 10-15 times, itgives freshness and peace. If the exercise is done whilegoing to bed, it ensures early and deep sleep. If it ispracticed in the morning for 15-20 minutes, it keepsvarious diseases away, purifying the blood. Cough, cold, fever, stomach pain, headache, all disappears. But remember following celibacy, which is alsovery important. If students or other youth peopledo this exercise, they would have no complaint oftuberculosis. In this connection also exercise `bhastrika pranayam`,which is very much beneficial. Complaints of severegastric troubles and others are treated. But if you feeltired, stop it. Ill or weak hearted people should notperform this pranayam.`Surya swar`When right `swar` is active, food is easily digestibleand no not harm. Hence remember, whenever `whenright `swar` is active, take meals. Likewise, water orother drinkable items are better to take when left`swar` is active. If practicised for sometime, it wouldbecome a habit.AsansAll asans are better but a few are the most crucialfor improving the health and enhancing the age like` siddhasan`, `padmasan`, `pashchimottanasan` and`Shirshasan` and could be easily exercised. Initially, they shall be exercised for minute- two minutes andwhen you get closer to the perfection, increase thetime period. If you get some yoga expert to advice,it is better. Too old, weak and ill people shall notexercise `shirshasan`. `Pashchimottanasan` is veryeasy and beneficial. If it is done empty stomach for5-7 minutes in morning, it gives miraculous results. The asan ensures the improvement of the backbone, stomach and the whole body. circulation and hence body is healthy.EdiblesSome medicines and edible items also better healthand improve age but physical labor is also neededbesides it. `Dalia`, sprouted gram, wheat and mungbean are better for health. The persons, who havegood digestive system, could use black lentil. In fruits, carrot, banana, guava, apple, pomegranate, orange, grapes, lemon, water chestnut, `aola`, date palm, greengram etc are very good for health. Likewise, `trifla`,chavyanprash, milk, curd and other dry fruits alsobetter health. But it also needs physical labor, whichgives strength and power.Exercise and restIn old age, much physical exercise is not possible butit could be compensated with some of the activitiesso that the body parts have some labor, particularlystomach and back bone i.e. spinal chord. Perform lightwork, which needs little bending of body parts andsome bodily movements. But don’t do tiresome jobs. But the people, who have strength, continue theirexercises even in old age.Taking rest is also important in old age. Besidesnight, take rest in day time also for hour- two hours. It regains the lost energy. In old age try to take morerest. Playing with little kids is also good, which keepsthe person happy. Keeping happy is good for health, which also gives physical and mental rest.Raw dietRaw diet means, edibles which have not been put toflames like sprouted wheat, gram, lentils, variousfruits, green fresh vegetables, green peas, roots likecarrot, radish, ray milk (without sugar), green luffa, bottle gourd, tomato and others. Eat all such itemsraw, without putting it on flames. It is said that eatingraw material keeps body healthy and ensure longevityof the age.Exercises on bedAfter waking-up in the morning, start exercising onthe bed itself. Just remove the pillow from the bedand perform the exercises. Though, wooden hardbase or ground is better. Normally people stretch thebody, soon after getting-up in the morning. Doingexercise is an elaborated form of the body stretching.Just tighten each body part for 2-4 seconds and thenrelease it. When fingers are tighten to form a fist andthen released, it increases blood circulation. In old age, stool deposits in the veins, which toughens it but withthis exercise, with fast circulation of blood, impuritiesget removed. The veins get softer and flexible, whichis an indication of youthfulness. When the veins would be flexible and clear, theoldness factor would reduce. The medicines can notdo this task; it is possible only with physical laborand fastening blood circulation. Stretch palm, neck, shoulder, waist, stomach, back and legs one by one.The jaw, chin, temple, hands, arms, calf and toes couldalso be stretched. Likewise, continue the exercise withother body parts, which you could stretch and move. But don’t get too tired, when you feel tiredness, takerest for a few minutes in between. The objective isto tighten every part of the body and then releasingit. The entire exercise takes 10-15 minutes but it isvery much beneficial for the body. Initially, stretcheach part of the body 2-4 times and conclude in 5 – 7minutes. But with regular exercise, extend it to 10-12minutes.I perform this exercise and also raise legs in air androtate like cycling 10-20 times. It is good exercise forstomach and legs and also clears stool passing.Do the exercise for one-two months initially and feelthe drastic change. If the breath is held for sometime, while stretching and released with the relaxed bodyparts, it would benefit fast. It is good to do in openspace or with windows opened. In winter season, theexercise could be performed with blankets over thebody but keep the face exposed. The exercises couldbe performed while sitting. If an old man performs the exercise shedding laziness, the pains of the old age would reduce considerably.Old persons in the age of 50-60 could do it while in theage group 70-75 could also try it slowly. §42 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

Similarity in`yoga` and`sanyas`Dr. Narendra SinghUProfessor, Patanjali University, Haridwar`Sanyas` is actually synonymous to yoga. It is clear fromthe `shloka` of Gita, in which Lord Sri Krishna himselfhas said that –`Yam sanyasamiti prahuryogam taha viddhi pandava.Na huasanyastha sankalpo yogi bhavari kashnan. (6/2)(Gita).Means, O Arjun, what you call as `sanyas` is actually yoga. The first reason to draw parallel between `sanyas` andyoga is, both are based on `vairagya` (mortification). With mortification, a human being enters in `sanyas`and mortification is the route to reach yoga hence, mortification is the ground for `sanyas` and yoga. Theday, when a person would have interest in the worldlypleasures, `sanyas` and yoga, both perish. It is clearlywritten in `Naradparivrajak Upnishad` -`Virajya sarvabhutebhye avirichipadadpi. Ghruna vipatyasarvasminputravattadi keshvapi`. (6/20).– Naradparivrajkopanishad.Means, the practitioners of Brahma (yoga) should havedisenchantment for all pleasures, human beings andeven the status of Brahma himself. Means, the status ofBrahma, Vishnu and Mahesh are small as compared toyoga. A common man thinks welfare of children, friendsand earning is everything and thus, gets alienatedfrom yoga sadhna. For them, the status of Brahma issomething unachievable. For yogi and `sanyasi`, norule of the nature and prohibition has any meaning. The imagination of prohibition and permission is amean thought for them. The thirst of `brahmagyan`and `mukti` are the important points of utility. The onecommon point in yoga sadhna and sanyas is, both arenot time bound. Thus, Shruti said`Yadharev virjet, tadharev pravrajet`,means, the day when you have feel mortified, convertinto `sanyasi` immediately. The same situation has beendescribed in yoga too. In `<strong>Yog</strong>adarshan` it is said that`Abhyas vairagyabhya tannirodhe. (1/12).– <strong>Yog</strong>adarshanam.Here, it is said that yoga could be achieved by two means– by practice and by `vairagya`. Shruti has said the samepoint for `sanyas`. Whenever the practitioner gets`vairagya` or mortification may be it `brahmacharya kal`(celibacy period), `grahastha kal` (married period) or`vanprastha kal` (recluse period), he could proceed forsanyas and yoga. There is no fixed period for the same. The `shloka` of `Naradparivrajak` also says -`Ekaki chintyedbrahma manovakkayakarmabhi, mrityu chanabhinandet jivitah va kathanchan. (3/60) –Naradparivrajkoparishad.`Kalmev pratiksheyet yadvadyavu samapyate. Nabhinandet44 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

in patanjali yoga, the practitioner has to essentiallyfollow the rules along with `yama` as alone `yama` oralone rules are said to be incomplete. Manusmiriti hasalso said the same thing.maranam nabhinandet jivitam, Kalmev pratikshetnirdesham bhashtko yatha. (3/61).Naradparivrajkopanishad.In Naradparivrajkopanishad it is written that in sanyasand yoga, a person has to practice in peace withoutdiscomfiture and uneasiness relinquishing wistfulness. At some isolated place, alone, he has to meditate fromheart, speech, body and action, only and only `Brahma`.He shall neither welcome birth, nor death. Sanyasi oryogi should not wait for life or death. A practitionershould only wait for the right time as a servant waitsfor the order of his master. Means, in yoga sadhna, apractitioner should wait for the right time, with foldedhands, which could be for longer period. If some specifictime or place is pre-decided for sanyas or yoga, in rest ofthe time, the mind may get involved in worldly pleasuresand then, all the efforts would spoil in a fraction ofseconds. It is said in Gita –Asanshyam mahabaho mano durnigraham chalam. Abhyasentu kaunteya vairagyen cha grihte. (6/35).Gita.Means, the mind is restless and hence to control it isas difficult as controlling air. Continuous practice andmortification could only control it.A minor difference in the definition of sanyas of`patanjali yog` and `Naradparivrajkopanishad` is that`yamansevet sattam na nitya niyamanbandhu.Yamanpattyakurvano niyamankewlanbhajan. (4/204) –Manusmiriti.Means, the learned persons shall follow `yama` and`rules` simultaneously. But in `sanyas yoga`, nostrict rule related to defecation has found mention.According to Maharshi Patanjali, there are two types ofdefecations, external and internal. But in sanyasi yogaexternal defecation bears no importance. A sanyasi’sbody could be dingy, dusty or even emaciated. For a`sanyasi`, the physical dirtiness or cleanliness does notmatter but his heart should be pure. Thus, a `sanyasi` is monastic by nature. Naradji hadasked the mystery behind `sanyas` and it is actuallyyoga. Bhakta Prahalad, Dhruv, Meera, Kabir, Surdas,Tulsidas, Acharya Shankar, Swami Dayanand, Ramanuj,Swami Ramanand, Ramkrishna, Ramtirtha andVivekanand, all were `sanyas yogi`. They were sanyasibecause they kept moving from one place to other andpreached knowledge. They did not stick to a single placeand they were yogi because they were unshaken in anycircumstances.Though, our earth is massive but it is said `Vasundhara`not because it has valuable gold, silver or diamondsbeneath it but it is known as `Vasundhara` becausesanyasis live on it. Though, the number has dwindledbut today also, many `siddha purush` live on it.The difference between `sanyas` and yoga is only inwords and basically, they are the same. The objectiveof both is to achieve `moksha` through knowledge. Forboth, practice and mortification have to be practicised. Thus, `sanyas` and yoga are not synonymous inmeaning but in deeds and acts, they are synonymous toeach other. §October 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 45

a human being is – good or bad, religious or irreligious,Whether scholar or fool, wealthy or poor, healthy or weak, knowledgeable or ignorant, all are intense forms of desires. Fundamentally, the seed of desire, watered by the outside circumstances, develops andturns into a grown tree ultimately. Different seeds could have differentforms or have different appearances. It is the strength of the seed, whichdevelops a tree below the ground and takes high above the ground towardssky. It is undoubtedly proportionate to the strength of the seed. In contextof the life too, the seed shaped wish should be strong enough.IBurningdesireAcharya Pradhumna Maharajt has been said that based on the intensity of the wish, there could beits innumerable and countless forms but broadly, it could be classifiedin three forms to understand the concept – low, medium and high. In ahuman life, for any problem of any level related to any subject like social, economical, political or psychological – the solution lies only in the burningdesire. Just analyze, when the desire is low or medium – what happens. It is the basic nature of a human being that when his normal routine isnot affected even if a task is not completed or he gets an easy alternative,he would put his desire aside. But when life gets affected, if a task is notaccomplished, the desire naturally becomes burning. There is no delay orlooking for any alternative to withhold or delaying it. More or less, we allexperience it in our daily life.If a thorn has pierced in the leg, the wish is to remove it as soon as possible. No other thought or alternative ever comes to the mind. If a human bodytouches contaminated night soil, no option except immediately cleaning it.If some outside object falls in the eye, like dust or mosquito we don’t thinkexcept removing it soon. When unbearable pain develops in the stomach,no matter it is mid-night, we reach to the doctor immediately. No humanbeing would be found to say ` I will address the problem tomorrow`. Ofcourse, the thought comes when the pain is less and bearable till morning. If a person, having a bag of valuables is traveling on foot. On the way hefinds a well and stops to drink water. Rests for sometime and later proceedfurther for almost five miles, leavingthe bag near the well erroneously.Suddenly, he remembers that he hasleft the bag near the well. Just imaginethe torrid intensity of the person to getthe bag, back in any manner. This inner sharp intensity is calledburning desire. It is also known asaspiration. If a person is dying of thirst, his attention would be solely on gettingwater. Any person, participating inOlympics, means all energy of hismind-soul-organs would be focusedon the target, without deviating for asecond and this state is called burningdesire. Maharajshri occasionally givesthis simple example, which nearly allof us come across in our life. A motheris doing daily chores and her child wassitting nearby. But the child was cryingand thus disturbing her. She gave a toyto the child to divert the attention. He plays for sometime and re-startscrying. Now the woman gives hima rattle. First, the mother had givenhim object suitable for eye and nowother organ, ear. But after sometime,he cries again. Now the mother keepshoney before him, a subject for thirdorgan. The child stops crying forsometime but how could he is satisfiedwith all such means, when his desire issomething else. His cry was for breastfeeding but with mother alluring withdifferent means, he forgets the realmotive for sometime. But now, thethirst was vehement, which did notquench by any means and hence now,he rejects anything placed before himimmediately. Ultimately, the mothertook him to the lap and feeds. Clearly,if a person forgets his aim and satisfieswith other means or accepts easilyavailable alternative to the objective,46 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

means the desire is not burning. Here is another example. Just thinkthat any person, deeply revered byyou, is stronger enough and holdsyou into the water in a reservoir, withhead inside the water. You start losingbreath and in any condition, you wantto come out, no matter, breaching allbarriers of the reverence. Certainly, you would bite his hand to get freefrom the grip but would not toleratedelay for a single second. This isburning desire. In this world of still andanimated visuals, we all accomplishmany of our works, inspired by intensedesire. When we observe this world, wecould find that inspired with intensedesire, a person performs many uphill, herculean tasks seems impossible atfirst instance. A person jumps into<strong>English</strong> Channel, full of fierce wateranimals, with a desire to cross it. Aperson hangs on to a flying aero-plane,with a desire to meet his mother andkept hanging for almost two hoursin the same position. But ultimatelyreaches his goal. Santosh Yadav, agirl from Rewari district, Haryanascaled Everest three times to set anew record. Inspired with the burningdesire, a cobbler of USA, Charlesfrost, studies for one hour regularlyand became a great mathematician. The son of a humble family, who didnot get an opportunity to go to theschool for even a single day, becomesthe president of America, AbrahamLincoln. The father of Galileo wantedhis son to be a doctor but he studiedmathematics, hiding the books insidemedicine books. At the tender age of18 years, he invented pendulum. Justrecently, one dancer from South India, who is orthopedically, handicappedhaving lost her leg in a car accident but not lost her desire to dance. Shestarted practicing with the help of artificial limb and re-started givingmiraculous stage performances. Now her performances leave the audiencespell-bound and are well appreciated. The Gunnies book is a classic exampleof burning desires where we get information of the stunning, surprisingmiracles being performed by the living beings. Sometimes, people don’tbelieve that a human being could even reach this level. On the other hand,`yogis` control all their desires and attain ultimate peace. When appetiteneeds intense desire, abstinence too is a result of it.Maharajshri says whatever you want to achieve, the flame of the subjectshall continue to burn as intense desire in your heart. He said – the insideflame could be ignited by you or be result of unidentified reasons. He says– whatever you wish, would have fear, obstructions and allurements but ifyou have burning desire, no one can stop you and ultimate you would bevictorious. This perfect weapon would make you concentrate on the target, ignoring others. Thus, the desire could be taken to any height but still itwould be below the highest. Maharajshri says there is no dearth of foodbut of hunger, no shortage of water but of thirst. If you have intense thirst, water would be searched. There is no surprise or doubt about it. It is just afact, which has to be understood. He said that whatever has been written inVedas, in reference to `agni` (fire), like `agne naya supatha raye`, it refers tothe same burning desire, which takes the practitioner ahead more and more. One day Poep Singh Ji, resident of Fideri told this writer that once Maharajisaid to his disciples including him (Poep Singh) that had you come screaming, wailing or yearning to me with a desire to meet the almighty. You can notreach god just by discussion or hearing sermons. It needs a true desire, a desirewhich can not be suppressed by any fear, lust and allurement. Unless youignite the desire for the god in your hearts, it is difficult to achieve something. While referring to the personal practice, which is more a diversifiedexercise with intense desire, commitment and relinquishment as suggestedby Maharaj Shri Arvind, Maharajshri said for god, or for spiritual life, when the desire is intense, the natural hurdles are overcome or rejectedunquestionably. Thus, the important factor of surrendering a practitionerbefore the god is intense or flared-up desire. Till this surrender, it is the effortof the `sadhak` after which the almighty himself reaches to the soul andguide him. Thus, Maharshi Arvind has, in a couplet said that burning desireand blessings, when a person is blessed with these two powers, any work, how difficult it may be, is carried out successfully. It has to be rememberedalways that the blessings of the god is proportionate to the three steps bythe human being – burning desire, diversion of demonic attitude and totalsurrender. The more intense are the efforts, the more blessing he gets fromthe god. §October 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 47

Follow steps for safe motherhood, avoid dangerover 1 lakh woman die in pregnancy period. In comparison to the woman in developed nation, theIn India, threat of death to a pregnant woman in India is 100 times more. Besides, many women also sufferlong-term pelvic infections, infertility, uterus bleeding and fistula during pregnancy period, which could causelifelong disability.TVaidhya Nitika SharmaConsultant doctor, Patanjali Hospitalhe deaths during pregnancy could be avoided withlittle alertness. Delivery in the hospital is necessaryfor the safety of the woman and the infant. The complicationsduring pregnancy have its affect on the infant. It could alsobe the reason behind increased mortality rate of pregnantwoman and infant, pre-mature delivery, under-weightbaby and contamination. The main reason of death of theexpectant mothers is – bleeding, sepsis, anemia, blockageand toxemia. Fortunately, all the diseases are controllable. The objective of the safe motherhood program is the savethe expectant mothers from death or deformity. But thisneeds family’s alertness and understanding of the subject. The family should ensure that the pregnant woman getsproper nutritious food, cleanliness, regular health check-up,tetanus injections and additional iron contents. These simplesteps could save deaths and deformities during pregnancy. The pregnancy period starts from impregnation to 42 days, after a child is born. The development in the said period isnot uniform and hence, it has been divided in three parts –pre-delivery, during delivery and post-delivery period. Eachpart has different sets of threat and hence different remedies.Remedies for safe motherhoodPre-delivery care- The pre-delivery period starts fromimpregnation to the labor pains. For the proper care, acaretaker should have information of the related symptoms. The symptoms of pregnancy include – the cessation ofmenstruation, morning sickness, excess urination andvariation in the breasts. (In case of any doubt, consult thedoctor). When the pregnancy is confirmed, give followingsuggestions to the women.

A) The woman shall get registered with the ANS at themedical sub-centre. Get tests for anemia, blood pressure, pelvic abnormality and the related treatment being donebesides other general problems.B) A pregnant woman should visit any health sub centreof hospital at least three times in the entire pregnancyperiod. Whenever she feels any problem or threat orwhen ANS or the doctor advise, she shall visit healthcenters. The conditions, which could be dangerous, are1) when the woman is less than 15 years of age2) first pregnancy3) fourth or further pregnancy4) problem in impregnation5) unwanted pregnancy.C) When a pregnant woman visits hospital she shouldundergo routine check up like height, weight, bloodpressure, anemia or any other medical complication. For the proper development of the fetus, its detailsand the voice from the heart of the fetus should also beexamined.D) All pregnant women should be given two injectionsof tetanus in the interval of one month and take ironrich tablets daily for almost 100 days. These tablets areprovided by the ANS free of cost during pre-pregnancycheck-up.E) Pregnant woman should not carry heavy weight andnormally take rest.F) The pregnant woman should take additional diet ascompared to normal condition. Her food should havegreen leafy vegetables, pulses, fruits and milk. Aftertaking meal, she should not take tea for around one hour. The woman should not undergo fast during pregnancyperiod. The advice from the Patanjali <strong>Yog</strong>peeth doctor for eachpregnant womanl Take rest and avoid hard and heavy laborl Take one extra meal. The meal shall have leafy greenvegetables, pulses, milk and fruits.l No tea, till one hour of taking meal. No fast duringpregnancy.l Two tetanus injections at the gap of one month.l Take iron tablets continuously for 100 days.l During pregnancy, a woman is likely to gain around10 kgs of weight. If she do not take nutritious food nordoes hard labor, the weight would not be increasedas expected. It also casts impact on the health of theexpectant mother and the fetus. If the weight of thenewly born baby is less than 2.5 kgs, there is strongprobability of him being ill of even die.l The pregnant woman should have details of the nearesthealth centre so that during pregnancy or any othercondition, she could be rushed to the centre.Though, pregnancy is a natural bodily phenomenon butdespite better pre-delivery care, some complications coulddevelop. It is important to understand the symptoms ofthreat. They are as follows.l Bleedingl The movement of fetus ceases.l Increase in weight more than 3 kgs in one month.l High blood pressurel Swelling on face and legs.l Hemoglobin reducing below 7 percent.l The height of the woman less than 145 cmsl Earlier undergone cesarean operation.l Earlier delivered a dead child. On getting any serious indication, a woman shall beimmediately carried to the hospital. If the woman startsbleeding, she should be taken to the hospital where facilityof blood transfusion is available. It is important to revealhere that the main reason of maternal mortality is bleeding. It leads to even death, if within two hours; the woman is notprovided any medical assistance,Care during pregnancyThe pregnancy period starts with labor pain and ends afterdelivery. The delivery should be carried in an institution, where proper medical facilities are available. If an infant isdelivered in a hospital where proper post-delivery care isalso available, infant mortality rate is reduced considerably.During bleeding or blockage in delivery, emergencyoperation could be performed. Such incidents could notbe predicted and also could not be dealt at home. If takingthe expectant mother to the medical centre is not possibleengage some experienced health worker like ANM, LHV orany trained midwife.October 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 49

If the delivery is being carried in home, follow a few rulesfor cleanliness. 1) Lay the woman on a clean sheet. TheGovernment has provided rubber-sheet for the purposefree of cost in some areas. Such sheets, if available shouldbe collected from ANM before hand and even after deliverycould be kept for use. 2) Hands should be washed with soapand clean water. The nails should be cut. (Remove rings andbangles before washing hands). 3) To cut the chord, use freshblade and tie it with neat threat. These items are available inone time use kit (DDK). These DDK kits are available at theGovernment Health Centers, Public Health Centers and CHCs.The woman wish to carry delivery at home should collectthe kit. 4) Attentively observe the cut portion of the chord,if it is bleeding, tie it afresh. 5) Some traditions of deliveryare dangerous like pressing the stomach or putting fingerin the vagina as it could damage uterus or cause infection, which would be dangerous for the life of the mother and theinfant. In such complications, immediately carry the patientto the hospital.Post-delivery careThe post delivery period continues for 42 days after cuttingthe chord and infant and newly mother have different typesof threats in the period. They are weak physically and needproper rest and nutritious food. To regain mother’s healthand proper care of the newly born, following steps areneeded.Breastfeedingl Soon after the delivery, a mother should startbreastfeeding.l In day or night, whenever is required, the infant shouldbe breast fed.l If the mother and child are ill, still don’t stopbreastfeeding.NourishmentThe mother should eat more as compared to the routine diet. She should include fruits, green vegetables and milk in theregular diet. The mother should also take water and otherliquid in more quantity. Iron and vitamins are also neededand hence, a woman should take iron folic acid tablet for 100days daily along with normal diet. The tablets are availableat the health centers free of cost.CleanlinessCleanliness is very important factor. The mother should dailybe cleaned with soap and change the cloths. She should bekept in a neat and hygienic room. Her bed should also beclean.Rest and exerciseThe new mother should get proper rest and hence sleepfor longer period. It helps in formation of breasts milk. Butremember that the proper rest to the mother is importantthough, lying on the bed for long period could be harmful. The mother should have light exercises. It helps uterusregaining its position in normal cases and also stops bleeding. The newly mother should avoid hard work for at least sixmonths. In the post-delivery period, intercourse is not advisable. This period needs medical attention and hence, the womanshould be taken to the hospital regularly. To get better results of pregnancy, remember these factsThe pregnancy age is 19 years and before it, it is not safe. Also frequent pregnancies, without any gap too increasecomplications. Gap of at least 18 months should be followedbetween two pregnancies adopting means of familyplanning. Thus, family planning is integral part of the safemotherhood.NutritionBefore pregnancy, the woman should be provided adequatenutritious food. She should have adequate quantity of ironand nutritious elements, when a woman is in pregnancyperiod.Personal hygieneDue to the body structure of the woman, there is adequatethreat of contamination in the urinary and reproductivesystem. These contaminations continue for longer timeand hence could be during pregnancy period. This couldcause complications and even harm the developing fetus. Thus, all women and girls are advised to remain clean.During menstruation, the women should use clean material, sanitary, napkins or towels and keep themselves hygienic. §50 & YOGSANDESH & October 2013

World have to unite to deal withdeteriorating environmentIDr Jadish Gandhi (Educationists)t is the real time to protect and conserve the naturalassets and if we do not get alert now, we would haveto face disastrous results. We all understand that climatechange is not limited to geographical boundaries. Thenatural calamity does not understand limits of any nation,it does not differentiate on the basis of religion, caste orthe citizenship. The felling of forest in South Americaaffects the monsoon in India. Likewise, for the climatechanges we are facing, more or less human being isresponsible. Now the environmental problem is a globalone and not limited to a nation and hence needs jointefforts to deal with the dangerous situation. The earth is a valuable gift of the god to the humanbeing but since centuries, human being is exploiting itceaselessly. Felling forests, nuclear tests are reasons formassive water, air and sound pollution. The atmosphere, environment, which were blessings once are becomingcurse. Today, the mutual relationship between humanbeing and the nature is not affirmative but disruptive.Hence, the pollution of the environment has not beenlimited to a community or a nation but becoming a globalthreat. Hence, it becomes necessary that every humanbeing on the earth and Governments unite to find somebetter solution. The global warming has originated from consumerism. The benefits from the nature should have extracted as amother but if the son starts drinking blood in place of milk,it is disastrous situation. In the solar system, only earthis the planet which has life. It is the most beautiful placeto live. It gives various sheds to flowers, different fruits. It is greenery and happiness on the earth everywhere. Itis the best of all planets. The human being, flowers, plants, trees, animals, birds addto the beauty of the mother earth. More than half of itsportion is covered with water. Due to gravitational force, itattracts objects. When there was no pollution on the earth,it was greenery everywhere. Every climate, weather hadtime system. The earth was neither too hot nor too cold. But now, when pollution has reached to dangerous level,it is enormously damaging the earth. The trees are felledand the forest cover has reduced drastically damaging theecological balance. If the same situation continued, the snow at north andsouth poles would melt and the earth would be warmer. We would have to control the pollution immediately orelse all creatures, animals, plants human beings woulddie. The people need to be civilized with the mother earth, safeguard its beauty. The nature has given a lot for whichwe shall always be obliged to it.The disastrous earthquake, which shook Japan on March11, 2011, followed by tsunami has extensively damagedthe earth and the nature. Never before it happenedthat the earth is displaced from the axis due to theearthquake jolts. It has shortened days. The tragedy hasleft environmentalists and eco-scientists perturbed andanxious. After the natural disaster, the man made disasterproved more frightening. The human being had before theexhaustion of the natural energy sources, invented nuclearenergy source. Following the discovery, all the developednations have accepted nuclear energy for development. But now we would have to seriously consider the seriousrepercussions of the nuclear energy power. The biggest organization of the world for peace is UnitedNations Organization (UNO) but it can not resolveglobal problems peacefully as its foundation is basedon the biased vote powers to five strong nations. Theinternational laws framed by UNO are not affective.Deteriorating environment, terrorism, race of nucleararms, global warming and other global problems needsto be dealt seriously immediately and hence a uniformconstitution should be drafted. All the nations, in the bestinterest of the environment should constitute a globalGovernment with equal rights to all the countries. Thecurrency, language and citizenship of entire world shouldbe common. All the nations should consider on the burningproblems at global level, impartially. §October 2013 & YOGSANDESH & 51
