This past year we also responded to several<br />

requests to provide aircraft support for fire<br />

suppression (Water Bucket) missions. This past<br />

summer AASF#1 responded to a request and rescued<br />

a severely injured climber in the Wichita Mountains<br />

using a UH-60 MEDEVAC aircraft.<br />

AASF #2<br />

AASF #2 is located in Tulsa in the heart of<br />

Green Country. The Facility maintains ten UH-60A<br />

helicopters and primarily supports B Company<br />

2/285th ASLT and B Co 834th (AVIM).<br />

Day to day the facility is responsible for progression<br />

and maintenance of aviator skill sets. The facility is<br />

also responsible for State Active Duty Mission (fire<br />

fighting) tasked throughout the week, and is the<br />

primary hub for VIP transportation.<br />

Company B 2-285th Assault Helicopter Battalion<br />

should be selected for the NGAOK Outstanding Unit<br />

Award for <strong>2010</strong> for their exceptional service during<br />

its recent deployment in support of Operation Iraqi<br />

Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Co. B deployed<br />

as part of the 2-285th AHB from Phoenix Arizona and<br />

quickly proved to be the backbone of the battalion.<br />

The outstanding training, preparation and<br />

leadership of OKARNG soldiers resulted in the<br />

BN headquarters selecting key staff positions to<br />

be filled from the Co. B ranks. The BN S3 and BN<br />

Standardization Instructor Pilot were both pulled<br />

from B Co. to support the entire BN and aviation Task<br />

Force. The B Co. TACOPS Officer was selected to<br />

provide support as the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade<br />

TACOPS officer while the BDE TACOPS position was<br />

pending fill. The BN adopted the B Co. battle book/<br />

tactical SOP as the base document to develop the in<br />

theater task force battle book. Prior to deployment<br />

B Co. led the BN in Readiness Level I aviators and<br />

consistently set the standard for mission execution<br />

and accomplishment.<br />

In theater B Co. flew over 5,600 aircraft hours with<br />

B Co. personnel logging over 20,800 hours; almost<br />

doubling the time of the unit they replaced. All of<br />

these missions were flown accident free.<br />

B Co. participated in training Iraqi <strong>Army</strong> soldiers on<br />

Air Assault Operations in conjunction with US <strong>Army</strong><br />

Special Forces, support Provincial Reconstruction<br />

Team efforts and were frequently called upon<br />

do execute the brigades toughest missions. As a<br />

testament to its combat effectiveness B Co. 2-285th<br />

received four Bronze Stars, and more than 30 Air<br />

Medals. B Co. 2-285th has consistently proven<br />

themselves to be one of the best units in the<br />

<strong>Oklahoma</strong> <strong>Army</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> and <strong>Army</strong>, with <strong>2010</strong><br />

providing an opportunity to display its ability outside<br />

the borders of <strong>Oklahoma</strong>.<br />

will Rogers Air <strong>National</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> base (ARNGb)<br />

Will Rogers Air <strong>National</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> Base is home to the<br />

OKARNG Aviation Command, the Det 46 (C-12 Huron)<br />

unit, the Det 1 Co A 641 (C-23 Sherpa) unit, and the<br />

Det. 1 Co A 1-114 S&S (OH58 Kiowa) unit.<br />

The C-12 and C-23 unit are tasked by the Joint<br />

Operational Support Airlift Center (JOSAC) and<br />

implements CONUS Operational Support Airlift (OSA)<br />

solutions and provides movement visibility for the<br />

Department of Defense.<br />

The S&S unit works hand in hand with the J3<br />

Counter Drug (CD) Operations for aviation support.<br />

The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> Counterdrug Program conducts<br />

a full spectrum campaign that bridges the gap<br />

between and among DoD and Non-DoD institutions<br />

in the fight against illicit drugs and transnational<br />

threats to the Homeland.<br />

CD Aviation support military, law enforcement,<br />

and community based counterdrug operations at all<br />

levels of government to anticipate, deter, and defeat<br />

these threats in order to enhance national security<br />

and protect our society.
