JOB DESCRIPTIONPOST:SOCIAL WORKERLOCATION:CHILDREN’S DISABILITY, INVER VILLA/EVERTONGRADE: BAND 5/6REPORTS TO:TEAM LEADERRESPONSIBLE TO: SERVICE MANAGER THROUGH OPERATIONSMANAGERJOB SUMMARY/MAIN PURPOSEResponsible through the Team Leader and Assistant Service Manager to theAssociate Director of Social Work for Children’s Disability.Main Duties/Responsibilities1. Duties allocated by the Senior Social Worker in relation to the provision anddevelopment of social work services to children with a disability within the BelfastTrust.2. The provision of a direct professional social work service to individual serviceusers and their families following assessment and care plans.3. Liaison with colleagues in residential services, medical and educational providersin the best interests of the child and their family.4. Liaison with multi-disciplinary colleagues as required, to assist in the assessmentand on-going support and care of service users.5. Participation in staff development opportunities offered through supervision andspecialist courses as required to maintain own professional development in linewith NISCC registration.6. A commitment to developing professional practice and to make a contribution toinnovative approaches as required.7. Knowledge of the statutory responsibilities of social workers in this field, inparticular Children (NI) order and the Mental Health Order (1986).8. Preparation of written reports for both internal agency use and for a variety ofother agencies including legal reports.9. To be able to work flexibly in line with service and user assessed need.10. To promote equality of opportunity and good relations as outlined in the Trust’sEquality Scheme.11. To be aware of the Human Rights legislation in relation to the requirements ofthis post.

P E R S O N E LS P E C I F I C A T I O NSOCIAL WORKERESSENTIAL1. Professional social work qualifications. CQSW, CSS Dip in Social Worker.2. Current UK Driving Licence and have access to a car – this criteria will be waivedin a case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able toorganise alternative arrangements.3. Have current NISCC Registration or evidence of application.DESIRABLE1. Experience of working with children with a Learning Disability in an employed orvoluntary capacity.2. Interest in working with children with a Learning Disability.3. Knowledge of the statutory and voluntary social services provision.4. Knowledge of the statutory responsibilities of social work and of organisationalstructure and procedures.5. Ability to be articulate both in speech and writing.6. Respect for the views of others and their professional roles and an ability tosustain social work perspective while negotiating with colleagues, other agenciesand the public.7. Good recording skills.8. General social work experience.9. Car OwnerYou are applying for a post working with people with a learning disability. Youshould be aware that given the nature of the disability of some of the people withwhom you will be working you may witness or experience challenging behaviours.These behaviours are likely to include verbal and/or physical abuse displayed bypeople towards themselves, other clients or staff.
