Neighbourhood GovernanceNote of Hobbayne Ward Forum Meeting______________________________________________________________________________________Hobbayne Ward Forum meeting – held on Tuesday 16 th September 2008 at 7.00pm at Brentside High School W7.Present: <strong>Council</strong>lors Costello (chair), Greenhead, PophamAttendees: over 70 people attended with 60 people signing the attendance sheet.Note taker: Evelyn Gloyn (EG) - Neighbourhood Co-ordinator South1/2NoteAction Point/InformationThere was an informal welcome from 7pm with people being offered light refreshments and the meeting was called to order at7:20 pm in the Assembly Hall, in Brentside High School. The room was set out with 8 chairs around each of 10 tables. Peoplecould choose where to sit.Cllr Costello (chair) opened the meeting with introductions, an explanation of the role of the ward forums, gave a brief updateon current issues, opened the forum to enable the attendees to raise concerns related to current issues and then gave residentstime to come up with suggestions on how to spend £40,000 in the ward.Papers available at the meeting were an agenda with a table of current projects, a map of the ward on each table indicatingcurrent projects, and Traffic calming consultation forms.1


Note3 Current Issuesa) Hanwell Town Centre Regeneration (£1million)Action Point/InformationRefurbishment of the Hanwell Clock Tower and setting up of Traders associations.Light columns for Church Road to Hanwell Bridge are to be mock-heritage style lights.Discussions held with St Mellitus church regarding finishing their works and St Joseph’s church is also looking to make visualimprovements to the outside of the church.There will be shop front improvement schemes to encourage traders and visual merchandising training to help traders learn topresent goods and improve.There is a programme of street improvements and improvements to signage.b) Hanwell Community CentreThis has £2 million upgrade to its structure and to make it watertight. In the process of appointing professional designconsultants, getting quotes and timescales together, for 2 options:Minimal time that the centre is totally closedPhased works over timeConsultation has gone out to 11,700 homes and 1,083 responses were received, users of the centre were also consulted viafocus groupsc) Brent Park Action PlanReplace the litter bins (12 identified £8,400) and new metal benches (8 identified £8,800). Metal benches are better at resistingvandals and fire. Refurbishment of the shrub beds (£25 per square metre) near the Brent Lodge animal Centre.The millennium maze-interpretation sign needs replacement (£3, 000).Refurbishment of the kissing gates (costing £4,000).Nicola Masters will match fund any benches or bins ‘supplied’ by the ward and has confirmed that the timber benches will bekept until they are not serviceable-then they have to be replaced with metal ones.2

Concern about replanting of trees by November and the cast iron lampposts inChurchfields.Action Point/InformationThe Chair confirmed these wouldbe planted by November but thecast iron lampposts issue was lesseasy to resolve.2. What is happening about the Church Road/Uxbridge Road crossing? Still waiting for a response fromTfL.3. A governor from Hobbayne Primary School) said cllrs had supported improvements inaccess to the school.Work has started on road markingsigns in Dryden Avenue and afeasibility study will be done for apelican crossing on Greenford Aveoutside the school (not a zebracrossing).Cllr Costello directed all that the money is to be used for things, but not those done normally, but it can bring forward jobs so youdon’t have to wait as long.4. Concern about lampposts being black and need to be careful of gaps when doingdropped kerbs -both adversely affect people with disabilities.5. The consultation documents for the Hanwell Community Centre were only in English;suggest they should be in other languages too.6. What lights will be put across Church fields? - Those left over from the Heritagezone?EG to look into black lamppostsfurther, other concerns should bereported to the council on 020 88256000, or emailcustomers@ealing.gov.ukConsultation was done inaccordance with current councilpolicyIf we are going to have the cast ironcolumns we will have to wait untilthe Heritage Zone is completed.7. Concerns about safety in Brent Park at midday and afternoons. Concern to be forwarded to wardsergeant8. Disappointment with Bunny Park opening hours, only open for 1.5 hours-no good ifyou travel far, also no rabbits any more.Comment noted4
