(exam and non-exam), CSPE and SPHECourse outline: Co operative learning employs the philosophy that individuals must work together to achieve shared goals andto maximize their own and each other’s learning. It is a particularly useful approach to the teaching and learningof R.E. in that it moves away from competitive and individualistic styles of learning, and develops instead theindividual’s responsibilities for group learning and vice versa. It fosters positive interdependence in the classroom,individual accountability, interpersonal and small group skills. This course is offered as part of the modularprogramme of SLSS and will be recognised for credits in the TDC post graduate educational studies diplomaconducted through SLSS (see modular courses). It will be of relevance to all teachers of R.E. whether or notthey are pursuing post graduate studies. Participants attend two evening sessions for this modular course. Participants will select from a range of freesoftware including mind mapping, quizzes, photo story and other packages, with emphasis on how this can beintegrated into the teaching of R.E. Participants practice including the software in their teaching with a specificclass, for a specific topic for a short period of time. Reflective practice and action research is suitable to openminded teachers who would like to improve their teaching of JCRE or LCRE using ICTs and who will reportback their findings. Students and teachers alike reflect on the activities, and both students and teachers offer reflections andfeedback in a short report. Opportunities for presenting the outcomes of the action research will be providedat National level for participating teachers.
