Certificates of test and the register of material <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> Division 6Section 30(b) an equivalent national standard established by a signatory member body of:(i) the International Organization for Standardization; or(ii) for electrical <strong>equipment</strong> — an affiliate body of the InternationalElectrotechnical Commission.28 Maximum load28.1 An article of material <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> must not be used to handle a loadexceeding the safe working load of the <strong>equipment</strong>, for loading or unloading avessel, except in accordance with Schedule 6.28.2 The mass of any loose gear, spreader, equalising beam and other cargo gearattached to the lifting appliance is to be taken into account in calculating theload on lifting appliances.29 Testing, thorough examination, inspection and certification29.1 Each item of material <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> and each sling or lifting deviceforming an integral part of a load must be of good design and construction andcomply with the provisions of Schedules 5, 7, 8 and 10 that apply to the type of<strong>equipment</strong>.29.2 Material <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> must not be used for loading or unloading unless:(a) it has been tested, thoroughly examined, certificated and inspected, inaccordance with Schedule 4; and(b) the current record of examination and inspection in the register of material<strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> indicates that the <strong>equipment</strong> is fit for use; and(c) it is visually examined before being used, to confirm it is free of obviousdefects and is fit for that use.29.3 If material <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> has been tested and examined in accordance withSchedule 4 and the competent person considers that it is satisfactory, he or shemust issue a certificate in accordance with the form for the test and examinationset out in Schedule 11.29.4 If material <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> has been examined or inspected in accordancewith Schedule 4 and the competent person or the responsible person considers itsatisfactory, that person must record the inspection in the materials <strong>handling</strong><strong>equipment</strong> register.Division 6Certificates of test and the register of material<strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong>30 Register requirements30.1 The master of a vessel must keep on the ship an up-to-date register of material<strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> for ship <strong>equipment</strong>.Penalty: 50 penalty units.30.2 The owner of each item of shore <strong>equipment</strong> must keep an up-to-date register ofmaterial <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong> for that <strong>equipment</strong> at the place where it is normallystored.Penalty: 50 penalty units.30.3 A competent person or responsible person who supervises or carries out tests,thorough examinations, inspections, heat treatment or any maintenance, repair<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Order</strong> <strong>32</strong> (<strong>Cargo</strong> <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong>) 2011 17MO<strong>32</strong> modcomp-130604Z.docx
