Approved splices in wire rope Schedule 10(f) second, third and fourth tucks must be made as detailed in paragraphs (a) to(e). After the fourth tuck, alternative ends are tucked backwards into therope so as to conceal the ends and the remaining alternative ends are tuckedin the same direction and then tucked backwards into the rope to concealthe ends.3 Swaged splices3.1 A looped eye or thimble secured by means of a compressed metal ferrule isacceptable as a splice, provided that:(a) the material used for the manufacture of the ferrule withstands plasticdeformation without cracking; and(b) the size of the ferrule is suitable for the diameter of the rope forming thesplice and of adequate length in relation to the intended load; and(c) the end of the rope forming the loop passes completely through the ferrule;and(d) the die used to compress the ferrule is of appropriate size; and(e) the compression pressure to clamp the ferrule is suitable for the die usedand adequate to ensure the necessary clamping.3.2 An alternative method for securing the end of the rope forming the loop may beaccepted by the Manager, Ship Inspection and Registration on the report of aninspector, if a test in accordance with subclause 8.3.1 of Schedule 4demonstrates the adequacy of the arrangement.3.3 For subclause 3.1, the following patented methods of swaged splices areacceptable:(a) Australoc;(b) Marsplice;(c) Superloop;(d) Talurit;(e) U.S. Wire Rope.<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Order</strong> <strong>32</strong> (<strong>Cargo</strong> <strong>handling</strong> <strong>equipment</strong>) 2011 73MO<strong>32</strong> modcomp-130604Z.docx
