Columbkille steam train engineThis magnificent steam train was built in 1907 for theCounty Donegal Railways and was used until 1959, when theCDR closed.Very few of these trains are still in existence, and as anobject it shows the city’s links to railway heritage. Jack Scoltock’s dive logbookThe City of Derry Sub Aqua Club had gone on many dives ina quest to find the location of La Trinidad Valencera.A regular dive, a stub of a toe on a cannon, and the discoveryof a shipwreck which became of international historicalimportance.The discovery of La Trinidad Valencera led to theestablishment of a multi-disciplinary team of experts withan objective of developing techniques to ensure the objectswere salvaged from the seabed.Proposed byDave Atherton30. Foyle Singers LP ‘In Derry Vale’ 1970’sMichael Mason was an organist, conductor and choral leaderin the city from the 1950s until his death in 1986.The Foyle Singers won numerous All-Ireland competitionsand were the Oireachtas Na Gaeilge All-Ireland championson seven occasions.Choirs and choral groups represent an important element inthe social, community and cultural history of the city.The city will host it’s first Choral Festival in October 2013.Proposed byAnnmarie Begley31. ‘An Turas’ / ‘The Voyage’‘An Turas’ was commissioned by the Scottish Government asa gift to the people of the city for 2013.The music accompanies an artwork featuring a ScottishGáidhlig manuscript.The music was the underscore for the opening ceremony forthe ‘Return of Colmcille’ pageant, directed by Frank CottrellBoyce in June 2013.The object tells the story of the relationship between theGael of Ireland and Scotland, marking the links forgedthrough plantation and emigration.Proposed byPól Ó Frighil13
