Contrast sensitivity for steel and uranium samples is in the 2 to 4 percent range. Object motion of several meters per minute can be followed without objectionable blur. At lower neutron intensities where image statistics are less favorable, these characteristics degrade somewhat. For example, in experimental tests at an intensity about 10 4 n/cm 2 -s (a value equivalent to less than 10 3 n/cm 2 per television frame), the single frame contrast observed for a 12.7 mm thickness of steel was 16 percent. Electronic integration, (adding successive frames) can be used to minimize statistical fluctuations and improve low intensity real-time images. Charlie Chong/ Fion Zhang
■ Other Detectors for Thermal <strong>Neutron</strong> <strong>Radiography</strong> In addition to film and real-time detectors, many other image detectors have been used for thermal neutrons. These include: radiographic paper; instant film; xeroradiography; multi-wire spark counters; proportional counters; thermoluminescent detectors; pressurized gas cell methods (similar to ionography); point detectors such as scintillation counters; and gas cell detectors scanned across the image.
