Divergent Collimators The primary advantage of the divergent collimator is that a uniform beam can be projected easily over a large inspection area. Other significant advantages include the fact that a uniform flux is not required over a large volume at the inlet end and the fact that the inlet imposes minimal perturbation to the source assembly. Some distortion occurs at the edges of the beam coverage from a divergent collimator because the neutron paths are radial rather than parallel.
