An elastic diaphragm is moved up and downby an eccentric (see illustration). On the down-stroke it drawsthe air or gas being handled through the inlet valve. On the upstrokethe diaphragm forces the medium through the exhaustvalve and out of the head. The compression chamber ishermetically separated from the drive mechanism by thediaphragm.
