AFI HornsAFI is the leading supplier of horns to the marine industry, with over fifty years of experience in designing andmanufacturing sound devices specifically for use in harshmarine environments. Stainless steel is used for all criticalcomponents such as trumpets, motor cover, diaphragms, and assembly and mounting hardware. In the case ofthe XLP trumpet horns, the horn is given extra protectionthrough the complete over-molding of the internal motorcover housing. It is this extra process that provides theadded protection needed to back up the five-year warranty.AFI offers a complete line of marine horn products designedto meet almost any need, including electric and air trumpethorns, compact horns, electric and air below deck horns, and a comprehensive line of drop-in horns with a wideassortment of grill options. After developing the first belowdeck horn for the marine industry in the late 1980’s, theoffering of that product line has continued to expand. The latest addition is the “H” Horn Phase II, which is theloudest drop-in horn available today.Notes:• AFI electric horns meet the American Boat & YachtCouncil (ABYC) Regulation #A23 for boats up to12 meters.• All AFI air horns meet the U.S. Coast Guard’sC.O.L.R.E.G.S. and U.S. Inland Navigation Rules, Annex iiiRegulations for boats up to 20 meters.• AFI horns are listed in the National MarineManufacturers Association (NMMA) CertificationProgram “type accepted” list• All AFI horns are listed for boats up to 12 meters andall AFI air horns are listed for boats up to 20 meters.• Horn motors and compressors are 12 Volt unlessotherwise indicated.• AFI horns are set at a lower frequency to providegreater range as the sound travels across the water.• Horns should be mounted facing forward wheneverpossible. The NMMA Certification Program requires thisfor boats 39' or longer.HornsWIPERS & HorNSNotice Concerning Marine Horns, CE, and Electromagnetic InterferenceIn order to operate, an electric horn rapidly makes and breaks an electric circuit. This operation creates electromagnetic disturbance, which may cause electrical “noise” in communications equipment. Because a horn is only used temporarily, any interference inelectronic equipment is stopped when the horn is turned off.The International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI), which certifies boats to the European Community Regulations (CE), hasdetermined that boats using electric horns can comply with CE requirements on electromagnetic compatibility provided the abovemessage is given to the boat owners in their manual.AFI Horn Relative Loudness Comparison ChartRELATIVE LOUDNESSElectric Compact HornElectric Single Trumpet Horn0 50 100 150 200 250 300 350 400 450dB RatingRelative LoudnessElectric Dual Trumpet HornFullBlast Single Air HornFullBlast Dual Air HornMARINCO | marinco.com | 115
