5.1.3 Add-on packages from Omegahat<br />

The Omegahat Project <strong>for</strong> Statistical Computing provides a variety of open-source software<br />

<strong>for</strong> statistical applications, with special emphasis on web-based software, Java, the Java<br />

virtual machine, and distributed computing. A CRAN style R package repository is available<br />

via http://www.omegahat.org/R/.<br />

Currently, there are the following packages.<br />

Aspell An interface to facilities in the aspell library.<br />

CGIwithR Facilities <strong>for</strong> the use of R to write CGI scripts.<br />

CORBA Dynamic CORBA client/server facilities <strong>for</strong> R. Connects to other CORBAaware<br />

applications developed in arbitrary languages, on different machines and<br />

allows R functionality to be exported in the same way to other applications.<br />

Combinations<br />

Compute the combinations of choosing r items from n elements.<br />

IDocs Infrastructure <strong>for</strong> interactive documents.<br />

OOP OOP style classes and methods <strong>for</strong> R and S-Plus. Object references and classbased<br />

method definition are supported in the style of languages such as Java<br />

and C++.<br />

RCurl Allows one to compose HTTP requests to fetch URIs, post <strong>for</strong>ms, etc., and<br />

process the results returned by the Web server.<br />

RDCOMClient<br />

Provides dynamic client-side access to (D)COM applications from within R.<br />

RDCOMEvents<br />

Provides facilities to use R functions and objects as handlers <strong>for</strong> DCOM events.<br />

RDCOMServer<br />

Facilities <strong>for</strong> exporting S objects and functions as COM objects.<br />

REmbeddedPostgres<br />

Allows R functions and objects to be used to implement SQL functions —<br />

per-record, aggregate and trigger functions.<br />

REventLoop<br />

An abstract event loop mechanism that is toolkit independent and can be used<br />

to to replace the R event loop.<br />

Rexif Extract meta-in<strong>for</strong>mation from JPEG files.<br />

RGdkPixbuf<br />

S language functions to access the facilities in the GdkPixbuf library <strong>for</strong> manipulating<br />

images.<br />

RGnumeric<br />

A plugin <strong>for</strong> the Gnumeric spreadsheet that allows R functions to be called<br />

from cells within the sheet, automatic recalculation, etc.<br />

RGtk Facilities in the S language <strong>for</strong> programming graphical interfaces using Gtk, the<br />

Gnome GUI toolkit.
