WORDS & DEEDS - 15Two days later the College held itsannual SVC Community Footballluncheon at Blundstone Arena. Over 130people gathered to listen to a star panelof speakers including RichmondFootball Club Chief Executive OfficerBrendon Gale (son of OV Don Gale),Kangaroos CEO Carl Dilena andKangaroos star Nick Dal Santo. CollegeArchivist Mr Graeme Rainbow providedan overview of the proud history of‘Saint’s football’. It was a fantastic day forall in attendance and a great lead-in tothe following day’s blockbuster betweenthe Kangaroos and Tigers. Funds raisedwill be used to further upgrade theCollege’s History Centre.Junior SchoolField of Poppies<strong>In</strong> the lead up to ANZAC Day JuniorSchool boys were honoured to be askedto be part of the launch of TheMercury’s ‘Field of Poppies’. The boyswere very respectful during the officialproceedings and willingly assisted inplanting the first of the 8,141 poppies torecognise the Tasmanian lives lost in war.They were also given the opportunity tohave a chat with Premier, Mr WillHodgman, and to sing him happybirthday as well!Grade 5 ScienceGrade 5 had a great day doingexperiments with Dry Ice, making BathBombs for Mother’s Day, working insmall groups doing a variety of activitieswith Mrs Messer and keynotes on iPadsto teach Grade 3 about ‘States ofMatter’. We learnt so much and it wasso much fun!Book Swap for Nepal<strong>In</strong> response to the tragedy in Nepal, theJunior School Library ran a book swapwith funds raised being donated to theRed Cross Nepal Earthquake Appeal. Allboys were asked to find a book or booksat home that they no longer need butwould be suitable for boys at the JuniorSchool. Thank you to all the familiesand boys who supported <strong>this</strong> worthycause for the people of Nepal who arestill suffering the effects of <strong>this</strong>devastating natural disaster.DiscoThe Junior School Hall was certainly theplace to be as the P & F hosted their firstDisco of the year. The Grade 3 and 4boys enjoyed their chance to show offtheir dance moves. However, theenthusiasm was certainly heightened aswe also hosted St Mary’s and MountCarmel Grade 5 and 6 girls for the latterpart of the evening. Lots of fun was hadwhilst some interesting dance moveswere shown off. Special thank you to DJFox and also all the parents who helpedout to make the evening an enjoyableand successful social gathering.Grandparents andSpecial Persons DayThere was a great buzz around theJunior School Campus as students’welcomed in excess of 200 of ourgrandparents and special persons to thecampus. The day commenced with aliturgy and assembly presentation byGrade 5M. Visitors were then able totour the classrooms to see the work thatour boys have been doing and howdifferent it is to when they, or theirchildren, were at school. Our guestswere encouraged to stay for morning teaand a catch up with each other, waitedon by students and staff.July 2015 Vol. 12 No. 2
