WORDS & DEEDS - 17SVC SportSwimmingJunior School HouseSwimming CarnivalWe were so fortunate to be blessed withbeautiful weather for the annual HouseSwimming Carnival at the GlenorchyPool. It was great to have the support ofso many parents and grandparents aseither spectators or helpers on the day– we couldn’t do it without you.The boys are to be commended for theirwonderful efforts and sportsmanshipdisplayed during the day. Boys werewishing each other well prior to races andcongratulating each other at the end.Congratulations to the Joyce House forbeing victorious.RepresentativeSwimming TeamAs a result of our House SwimmingCarnival, the following boys wereselected to represent the College at theSTCPSSA (Catholic Schools) Carnivaland the JSSATIS (<strong>In</strong>dependent Schools)Carnival.Congratulations to:Grade 6: Sebastian Brown, Max Newett,Joshua Wylie, Max Giuliani, Harry FisherGrade 5: Lachlan Brennan, CampbellHills, Harry Williams, Dylan Graves,Sahib Singh, Hamish MenzieGrade 4: Charlie Banks, Ayrton Cooke,Jack Pritchard, Riley FergusonGrade 3: Darcy Berry, NedCunningham, William Faux, DanielWylie, Noah Boonstra, Ben SantaluciaMaximilian Giuliani broke the 50mbackstroke record in a new time of1.36.24. He was also awarded the BillHenderson Memorial Trophy for mostoutstanding Grade 6 boy.SSATIS SwimmingThe Southern SATIS Swimming carnivalwas held at the Hobart Aquatic Centrewith St Virgil’s having a strong team ofswimmers from all grade levels. The daystarted with the Under 14 Medley relay.The boys proved that they were a groupto watch out for as soon as their racebegan. The Under 16 team followed andalso showed our competitors that theywere a force to be reckoned with.Throughout the day our boys excelled inmost events.One of the highlights of the day wasThomas Bennett’s personal best in theUnder 13 50 metre Freestyle. Following ashort lunch break, the boys returned tothe pool and finished with a number oftop three places. The final event of theday was the freestyle relay. The Under 13boys led early and managed a first placewin. The under 15 boys then swamagainst some tough competition butmanaged to be the first team to touchthe wall.At the end of the day the overall winnerswere announced. The Under 13 Boystook out first place overall as did theUnder 15 Boys. Overall it was a verysuccessful day.The Under 15 team ended the day on ahigh, by not only taking out first place,but also by beating the previous recordset in 2008 with a time of 1 min. 50secs.Congratulations to Lachlan Rice, RileyOakley, James Drew and Angus Reilly ontheir record breaking swim.July 2015 Vol. 12 No. 2
