The revolution that did not happen in the modern Israeli Jewish soul with thetransition from powerlessness to powerfulness is also reflected in the soul of manyDiaspora Jews. Instead of harnessing modern Jewish fortitude to repair the worldand oppose its injustices, we find too many Jews that are haunted by past traumas. They cannot change and adapt, in the same way that a ship in the ocean cannot cometo a full stop in less than a few miles.Diaspora Jews, including many of their representatives, choose the side ofauthority and become partners in the world’s injustices and insensitivities. Beyond the lip servicethat both countries still pay to the utopian visions on which they were founded, themesh between the conservative American administrations and the right-wing Israeligovernments is the most blatant testimony to our mental problems.Jews hold stunningly powerful positions and clout in the United States. Thecombination of the American state’s power and the Jewish power in the areas oflegislation, administration, media, law, business, culture, and entertainment have madethe Jews a defining factor of contemporary America. Because Israel is inseparablefrom the identity of American Jews, Israel is inseparable from the Americanexperience. The original pioneering Israel has metamorphosed in the last four decadesof its existence; since 1967 it has changed its character. From a weak, embryonicstate, it has become the most powerful Jewish entity ever. At the same time, American
