Annual Chief Justice Jack Pope Professionalism Awards, which recognize a Texas appellate lawyer and anappellate judge who demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and integrity.Proceeds from the Hemphill Dinner support the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society’s ongoingefforts to collect and preserve the historic papers, photographs, and artifacts of the Supreme Court of Texas.The funds also support the Society’s legal history book series and other projects aimed at honoring the Court’shistory and educating the public about the state’s court system.On Saturday morning, September 12, current and former justices, briefing attorneys, and staff attorneysfor the Supreme Court will gather for their annual reunion breakfast at the Texas Law Center in Austin.For more information about the dinner or to purchase tickets, visit the Society’s website at www.texascourthistory.org. Society Hosts Second Biennial Symposium on theHistory of Texas JurisprudenceBy Dylan O. DrummondON MAY 7, 2015, the Society held its second biennialcourse on the history of Texas and Supreme Courtjurisprudence. Once again, Society Trustee and JournalGeneral Editor Lynne Liberato served as the coursedirector.This year’s seminar featured several unique and captivatingpanel discussions, in addition to individual presentations ranging fromthe rise of modern contract law in Texas to accounts of the six lawyerswho perished at the Alamo.Photos by David C. KrollThe first panel was comprised of current Texas Supreme CourtChief Justice Nathan Hecht and his two immediate predecessors,Wallace Jefferson and Tom Phillips, who examined the challengesand successes of the tenure of each Chief Justice.
