Later the saying made itsway to Britain.

Household RemediesVinegar. One just cannot discuss household remedies without the mention of vinegar. It’sused for everything from eliminating ants to cleaning windows and a thousand things inbetween! Quite literally. While searching for a solution to prevent soap residue on darkclothes after laundering I found a website that boasts a thousand and one tips using whitedistilled vinegar. If you have time, check it out at vinegartips.com.Below is a sampling of what they offer.Laundry:*To remove soap residue left on black clothes or to eliminate manufacturing chemicals from new clothes add ½ cupvinegar to final rinse.*Get cleaner laundry by adding ¼ cup vinegar to the last rinse. The acid in white distilled vinegar is too mild to harmfabrics, yet strong enough to dissolve alkali in soaps and detergents.Garden:*Stop ants from congregating by pouring vinegar on the area.*Remove berry stains on your hands by rubbing them with vinegar.Cleaning:*Clean and deodorize a drain by pouring 1 c. baking soda, then one cup hot vinegar. Let this sit for 5 min, then runhot water down the drain.*Clean the microwave by mixing ½ c. vinegar and ½ c. water in a microwave-safe bowl. Bring to a rolling boil insidethe microwave. Wipe clean. Baked on food will be loosened and odors will disappear.*Pour ½ c. vinegar in dishwasher, load and wash as usual. This will help eliminate scale build up and water stains onglasses. (this tip comes from Rachel - thanks).I invite others to share their tried and true concoctions. FARO RCMP DETACHMENTFaro RCMP would like to remind Faro residents to be aware of thepossibility of wolves visiting us within town limits. We have had severalcalls throughout January regarding wolf activity. Our local conservationofficers have taken action and are working to safely limit the risksinvolved. Please keep your pets tied or fenced as traps designed forwolves may also be a danger to pets wandering at large. If you see any wolves in town or in the immediate area please give thelocal conservation office a call or let the RCMP know and we will work tokeep the area as safe as possible. The Faro Golf Course remains a concern for our community as snowmachines can damage the turf under the snow. If you must drive on ornear the golf course please be aware of the risks to this importantfacility in Faro. The greens are particularly susceptible to damage. If youare not aware of where the greens are please take the time to ask oravoid the golf course entirely.Faro RCMP have noticed an increase in careless driving. This is easy todo as the winter moves on. Slippery conditions make it easy to slidethrough stop signs and slip out of your intended lane at the corners. Besure to take special care at intersections and keep your speed down asthe time you make up by driving quickly will not off set the cost on anaccident.Winter can be a lot of fun. We all suffered through a short cold spell inJanuary but lets get moving this February. The recreation departmentoffers a full slate of activities for all ages and the area offers more thanenough outdoor activities to keep us moving. Get out and get active,we’ll see you there.Have a great Super Bowl Sunday but if your planning on having a fewdrinks please leave your car at home. Be safe and have fun.To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 994-5555 or1-867-667-5555. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC whowill have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in thecommunity, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555and an officer will be contacted.*************************************************************Faro␣Detachment␣would␣like␣to␣remind␣members␣of␣the␣community␣about␣our␣Emergency␣Phone␣located␣at␣the␣front␣entrance␣to␣the␣Detachment.␣This␣phone␣line␣is␣connected␣directly␣to␣Whitehorse␣RCMP␣dispatch.␣The␣caller␣only␣has␣to␣hold␣the␣phone␣to␣their␣ear␣and␣someone␣from␣Whitehorse␣Dispatch␣will␣answer.␣This␣will␣ensure␣a␣quicker␣response␣from Faro␣RCMP␣members.␣Arctic Edge Skating Club would like to saythanks to the residents of Faro for theirdonations to our bottle drive! Department of EnvironmentThe sheep are now on their winter range around Faro and viewing opportunities are wonderful for the few whowish to brave the snow and cold. We may be fortunate enough to have a few sheep in town again this winter! Ifnot, a walk into Van Gorder falls will usually result in a good viewing opportunity. As well as the sheep, the deepsnow in the high country has pushed the moose and caribou down to lower elevations. Great viewingopportunities are present for moose on the mine road as well as on the Robert Campbell Highway towardsCarmacks. Caribou are now present in fair numbers just west of town towards Carmacks as well. With the sheep, moose and caribou comes the ever present wolves of our region. You all may be aware of thisbut this year as with every year, the wolves of the Yukon have chosen a few locations to set up shop. WatsonLake and Ross River have been experiencing issues with wolves around the community killing pets. Morerecently, Faro has started to experience some issues as well. Once wolves, foxes and coyotes begin preying onpets, it can be very difficult to remedy the problem. Please make every effort to walk your pets on a leash whenaround town and out on the trails. Please contact our office if wolves are observed around the community. As well, with the wolves near our community, moose will often venture into town to try to avoid the wolves. Thiscan be a safety hazard in itself. Please take caution when letting your pets outside or when walking them on thenumerous trails around town. Not only is it an offence to allow pets to harass wildlife, it is also very dangerousfor the wildlife, the pets as well as yourself. The CO Services is making every effort to minimize any conflictswith wildlife. The Bison hunting season resumes again on February 15th. This is a great opportunity that we have here nowand I would encourage anyone that gets a chance to hunt or accompany a hunter in the field for Bison to jumpat the chance. It is a wonderful time of the year to get off the couch and get outdoors. As well, the trapping season is in full swing. There are a few people trapping behind the mine area again thisyear and we would like to take this opportunity to request that anyone using the area behind the mine forsnowmobiling, skiing, walking, etc. to respect the trapper’s trails and equipment. Most trails being used fortrapping are marked and it is advisable if you refrain from using these trails for your safety, for your pet’s safetyand for respect of the trapper. If you have any questions regarding using these trails, please feel free to contactthe office.TJ – 993-3452Ken – 332-7820and Leithe – 994-2862Faro DistrictConservation Office
