Coryell, PhDPrincipal Investig<strong>at</strong>orAssistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, Co-Director <strong>of</strong> the Gradu<strong>at</strong>e Programs in Adult Learning and TeachingDepartment <strong>of</strong> Interdisciplinary Learning and Teachingjoellen.coryell@utsa.eduBio: Dr. Coryell’s academic background includes a B.A. in Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Economics from the<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Illinois, a M.Ed. in Educ<strong>at</strong>ion with an English as a Second Language cogn<strong>at</strong>e from<strong>Texas</strong> St<strong>at</strong>e <strong>University</strong>, and a Ph.D. in Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Human Resource Development from <strong>Texas</strong>A&M <strong>University</strong>. She grew up in 16 cities around the U.S. and Italy, and has traveled to, studied,or worked in 17 countries around the world. She has experience in executive businessmanagement and educ<strong>at</strong>ional settings from early childhood through adulthood. She has taughtin both formal and informal educ<strong>at</strong>ion and business programs. Her research and teachingencompasses two major themes: (1) intern<strong>at</strong>ional and cross-cultural adult and highereduc<strong>at</strong>ion, and 2) pr<strong>of</strong>essional development <strong>of</strong> adult educ<strong>at</strong>ors.P. Elizabeth P<strong>at</strong>e, PhDCo-Principal Investig<strong>at</strong>orPr<strong>of</strong>essorChair, Department <strong>of</strong> Interdisciplinary Learning and Teachingelizabeth.p<strong>at</strong>e@utsa.eduBio: Dr. P<strong>at</strong>e’s research agenda is framed by systems thinking and focuses on servicelearning/community-basedresearch, the Conceptual Framework <strong>of</strong> Teaching Practice,democr<strong>at</strong>ic educ<strong>at</strong>ion, and STEM curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Her teachinginterests include curriculum and instruction and middle level educ<strong>at</strong>ion. Dr. P<strong>at</strong>e serves as a codirector<strong>of</strong> <strong>UTSA</strong>’s GE 2 MS Program, Gener<strong>at</strong>ing Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Excellence in M<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics andScience. She is also a co-editor for Voices from the Middle for <strong>The</strong> N<strong>at</strong>ional Council <strong>of</strong> Teachers<strong>of</strong> English. Her leadership roles have included membership on the Research Advisory Board forthe N<strong>at</strong>ional Middle School Associ<strong>at</strong>ion (2006-2008); as well as, President, President-elect,Program Chair and Vice-President, and Treasurer <strong>of</strong> the Middle Level Educ<strong>at</strong>ion ResearchSpecial Interest Group (MLER) <strong>of</strong> the American Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Research Associ<strong>at</strong>ion (AERA). She isthe recipient <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Texas</strong> System Chancellor’s Council Outstanding TeachingAward (2006) and the President’s Distinguished Achievement Award in recognition <strong>of</strong> TeachingExcellence (2006) <strong>at</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Antonio</strong>.Beth A.
