If 57,600 baud is selected, forexample, the printer will start to communicate with9,600 baud and then switch up to 57,600 or 38,400baud, depending on the transmitter .The maximum baud rate of 115,200 should only be r e-duced, if transmission pr oblems occur .When an infrar ed transmission is interrupted, the printerwill look for the transmitting master device for about 20seconds in or der to complete the transmission. The GPT -4379 has an LED next tothe transceiver that signals any IR communication. It isimportant to consider that infrared transmissions onlywork "at sight". The radiation angle is about +/-15 degrees.The transfer distance, which also strongly dependson the efficiency of the opposite side, is about1.0 meter. It can be expanded to < 3 meters by installinga booster-IR LED.Use of the Sleep ModeIn the setting "IrDA "or "GeBE IR", the IR r eceiver willeven be active in the sleep mode, so the device will nothave to be switched on explicitly for printing. The powerconsumption of the printer is only about 25µA inthis mode. However , the printer should still be tur nedof f during long periods of inactivity .GeBE -IR Pr otocolThe GeBE-Ir pr otocol is a simple, err or pr otected infrared pr otocol. For this r eason,the timing of the data transmission is tuned, so theprinter is guaranteed to always be able to print out thedata r eceived thr ough the HP-IR interface without theloss of any data. The transmission speed is limited toapp. 800 baud.When defective characters ar e r eceived, they ar e corected, if possible, or r eplaced with a ? character , ifthey ar e uncorr ectable. A buf fer overflow is indicatedthr ough the character FChex.Use of the Sleep ModeAfter the sleep time set in the menu has passed, theprinter turns itself off.(s tandar d value = 10 minutes).The IR r eceiver is of f during sleep mode. Therefore, thedevice has to be turned on explicitly for printing. Thepower consumption is only about 18 µA in this mode.However, for longer periods of inactivity, the printershould be turned off completely by holding down theNEXT/OFF key .2. Font ECMA 94Data T ransmission Format for Failur e-Fr ee Operationof the GeBE-FLASH ® :The IR r eceiver of the GeBE-FLASH ® has the ability toinhibit failur es due to ambient light. However , continouslysent data of mor e than 140 bytes without a pause betweenthe bytes may cause the printer to become sensitiveto ambient light. The optical filter that is installed as astandar d will r educe this ef fect, but it cannot completelycancel it. It is ther efor e r ecommended to incr ease thespecified interframe delay fr om 600µs to at least 1.5 msafter a continous data transmission of no mor e than 140bytes.
