This code of practice (Code) outlines the University of Edinburgh’s recommended practice and expected standards in the management of Research Degrees.

1 Higher education providers that are research
degree awarding bodies have regulations for
research degrees that are clear and readily
available to research students and staff, including
examiners.

2 Higher education providers develop, implement
and keep under review codes of practice for
research degrees, which are widely applicable
and help enable the higher education provider
meet the Expectation of this Chapter.
The codes are readily available to all students and
staff involved in research degrees, and written in
clear language understood by all users.
The codes of practice, policies and guidance are reviewed on a regular basis by Academic Services and by the
appropriate Senatus Committees.
