HEAD COACH GUS BRADLEY
JAGUARS VS. DETROIT LIONS
FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2015
(Opening statement) “I know we have a lot of things to cover in a period of time. Starting off offensively
I thought we had a pretty good night. Again, it is preseason matchups and things like that all taken into
account, but still felt like we executed pretty well. First team offense was ten for twelve on third down,
320 yards in net offense. It just felt good moving the ball. I know we stalled the one time down there on
a fourth down and we went for it. It may have been a situation where we kicked a field goal but we
wanted to be aggressive in that situation. All in all I thought that first offensive drive really showcased
some things. There was some adversity in there, we had a holding penalty in the red zone and we fought
back but different guys made big plays. Marcedes made a big play, Allen Hurns made a big play, Blake
made a big play and it was really spread out. Again, I think the offensive line to go that many plays and I
don’t think they gave up a sack, I’m not sure the first team offensive line. It was very good by the
offense. Defensively we had some spurts, we played some good ball, first two series got them off the
field but then the explosive plays; the long pass. We’re trying to find different ways to create pressure.
Came up with a new pressure, trying to get some different guys coming. We wanted to see the
effectiveness of guys blitzing. We brought pressure, didn’t get to them and they completed a pass to
Golden Tate. It was a beautifully thrown pass and we’ve got to take advantage of our opportunities in
that situation but we’ve got to at least capture those explosive plays. I think the long run too was
disappointing to me when we had them in a backed-up situation. It was a defense that is heavy oriented
to the run, we spilled it, it got outside and we just didn’t make a play. I think there was enough good
things to build on defensively but we’ve just got to eliminate those. The defense knows that, they
players feel it and we can get those things corrected, is my hope. Special teams some good things,
players showed up. Nick Marshall showed up. I thought we did a pretty good job with coverage as well.”
(Injury update) “I have Brandon Linder, left toe. I think he could have come back and played we just
chose not to. Andre Branch we will get an MRI on his knee. We’ve got our fingers crossed on that one. I
think we’ll see with that. I know he was walking around a little bit in the training room. Allen Robinson
returned to the game, Allen Hurns just had some hip tightness so we chose to keep him out in the
second half, and then Clay Harbor, ankle. We’ll see how he is but other than that I think we came out in
pretty good shape.”
