JAGUARS PLAYERS
JAGUARS VS. LIONS
FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2015
(On third down efficiency) “It was really good. I think we were ten-for-twelve with the ones, so I think it
was great. It’s just a tribute to preparation—kind of knowing what to expect on a third down. Guys
doing a good job upfront; I think the guys had a good understanding of it. Guys ran good routes and we
were able to move the chains.”
(On if he feels like he might be running too much) “Definitely. You want to be able to take care of
yourself as a quarterback and limit the hits. So when you do take off and run, you want to get out of
bounds or get down. We do have a goal we want to get two or three first downs a game running, so
anytime you get a chance as a quarterback to pick up a first down on the ground, it helps out
tremendously.”
(On if how encouraged he is with the offense even with missing key players like Julius Thomas) “I think it
is a tribute to everybody and to the slack that everybody has picked up with him being gone. That room
(tight ends) specifically, Clay (Harbor) and Marcedes (Lewis). Nic Jacobs had a couple of big catches. So
they have done a really good job picking up the slack, because obviously, he is a tremendous player and
you miss him when he’s not there. But I think the other guys in that room have done a really good job.”
(On if he thinks he has set a good enough foundation in the first three preseason games and how he
feels about sitting out the last preseason game) “I think we have done some good things as a unit. I
would obviously like to play and get as many reps as possible, but that’s his (Coach Gus Bradley) call in
the end, so whatever he says goes. I’ll go into this week and prepare just like I have the previous three
weeks.”
(On his mechanics and if he thinks he has improved) “Continuing to do it; continuing to create that
muscle memory is the only way to make it permanent. Doing it in games and live reps is the only way to
get it to stick. I think it has been good so far, so I have to stay after it, stay on top of it.”
(On if he is more impressed with scoring drives or lack of turnovers) “I think both. I think both have been
impressive. I think the drives we have been able to put together not only this week, but the previous
two. Show the toughness, show that in the end, this is who we want to be…to be a run first team.
Obviously, tonight we had a big emphasis on converting on third down, that was impressive. But guys
