Wright has served as Director of the Ringgold Middle <strong>School</strong> <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> <strong>and</strong> the Associate Director of the Ringgold High <strong>School</strong> Marching Tiger <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> for 19 years. He was named the<br />
RMS Teacher of the Year for the 2000-2001 academic year <strong>and</strong> has received three Citation of Excellence awards from the National <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> <strong>Association</strong>. Wright is a member of the Georgia<br />
Music Educator’s <strong>Association</strong>, Music Educator’s National Conference, the National <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> <strong>Association</strong>, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, <strong>and</strong> an elected member of the American <strong>School</strong> <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> Directors<br />
<strong>Association</strong> <strong>and</strong> Phi Beta Mu. He has served GMEA on various committees <strong>and</strong> currently serves as b<strong>and</strong> chairman for District VII.<br />
Under Mr. Wright’s direction, the RMS <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> has performed at the Southeastern United States <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> Clinic at Troy State, the Georgia Music Educators Conference, <strong>and</strong> the University of Georgia<br />
Middle <strong>School</strong> Music Festival. The b<strong>and</strong> received a commendation for musical excellence from the Governor of Georgia in 2000. The RMS b<strong>and</strong> has received numerous superior ratings at<br />
GMEA festivals <strong>and</strong> other regional festivals in concert <strong>and</strong> jazz.<br />
A marching, concert, <strong>and</strong> jazz b<strong>and</strong> clinician <strong>and</strong> adjudicator throughout the Southeast, Mr. Wright received a Master in Music in Conducting from the American <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> College at Southern<br />
Oregon University in 2004. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Jacksonville State University in 1992. While at JSU, he studied saxophone with Dr. Ronald Attinger,<br />
directed the basketball pep b<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> served as drum major. A native of Ringgold, Georgia, Mr. Wright graduated from Ringgold High <strong>School</strong> in 1988.<br />
Mr. Wright is a member of Quitman Lodge No. 106, F&A.M., <strong>and</strong> is a member of the York Rite <strong>and</strong> Scottish Rite. He enjoys teaching <strong>and</strong> lecturing on Catoosa County history in the<br />
community. Mr. Wright lives in Chickamauga with his wife, Amy, the media specialist at Tiger Creek Elementary.<br />

Gavin Smith received his Bachelors of Music Education from Texas Tech University. He was a member of the Goin’ <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong> from<br />
Raiderl<strong>and</strong> as well as many other ensembles. In addition, he marched lead soprano for the Phantom Regiment Drum <strong>and</strong> Bugle<br />
Corps. Mr. Smith has taught high school b<strong>and</strong> in Holliday, TX, <strong>and</strong> received his Masters in Conducting from Kansas State<br />
University where he served as a Graduate Assistant with the KSU <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong>s. Mr. Smith is currently pursuing his Ph. D in Music<br />
Education from Ole Miss.<br />
Mr. Smith Assists with the “Spirit of Gold” Marching <strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong>, overseeing the visual <strong>and</strong> drill design. Along with the marching<br />
<strong>B<strong>and</strong></strong>, Mr. Smith Co-directs the basketball pep b<strong>and</strong>. In the Blair <strong>School</strong> of Music, Mr. Smith is Lecture in Teacher Education <strong>and</strong><br />
Coordinator of the Music Arts / Teacher Education Graduate Placements.
