Dr. Andrew Ross, MD BS, FANZCA, Dip. Health Med Law, Dip Psych is a career Obstetric Anaesthetist who has combined his anaesthetic practice with over 20 years continuous experience at The Alfred ICU. Previously Head of Anaesthesia at both the Royal Women's Hospital and latterly the Mercy Hospital for Women, he continues to combine ICU with his subspecialty anaesthetic practice in both private and public spheres. His other interests include the law and medicine. A/Prof. David Tuxen, MB BS, FRACP, Dip DHM, MD, FCICM, is a Senior Intensivist and the immediate past Director of the Department of Intensive Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at the Alfred Hospital. This ICU treats 16-1800 patients PA and provides the hyperbaric, trauma, burns and ECMO services for the state, and a national heart and lung transplant service. He has performed 21 years continuous service on an ANZICS or Intensive Care Foundation executive. He is a past President of ANZICS and a past Chairman of the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Foundation. He has been the RACP Supervisor of Intensive Care training and the Chairman of the RACP Specialist Advisory Committee on Intensive Care. During 21 years service in the RAAF reserve, he was a Wing Commander and the RAAF consultant for Intensive Care Medicine. His work and achievements has been recognised by receiving ANZICS Medal, giving ANZICS Oration and being placed on the ANZICS Honour roll. He has been the convenor of all the Alfred ICU Advanced mechanical Ventilation Conferences since its inception in 2007 Expertise and special interests include mechanical ventilation of asthma and ARDS, lung recruitment, independent lung ventilation, fungal infection in intensive care, intensive care ethics. Dr Steve Philpot, MBBS (Hons), FANZCA, FCICM, PGCertCU Steve completed his Anaesthetic Fellowship in Western Australia, and his Intensive Care fellowship in Victoria. He also worked for several years in the Northern Territory, and is now a full time specialist in the ICU at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. He is a Hospital Medical Director for organ and tissue donation, and a member of the Donatelife Victoria Communication Skills Working Group. He has a special interest in end of life care and medical education. He is a member of the teaching faculty on several of the Alfred ICU post-graduate teaching courses and a coordinator of the Alfred ICU education program. He is completing his Post graduate diploma of clinical ultrasound and his diploma of diagnostic ultrasound and is a member of the Alfred ICU echocardiography service.
A/Prof. David Pilcher, MB BS, MRCP, FRACP, FCICM, Monash ICU Practitioner Fellowship Dave is an Intensive Care Specialist at the Alfred Hospital. He trained in General and Respiratory Medicine in the UK before completing Intensive Care training in Australia. He is also chair of the ANZICS Centre for Outcomes and Resource Evaluation and an Associate Professor with the Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine at Monash University. His research interests are in the epidemiology and monitoring of Intensive Care outcomes, lung transplantation and organ donation. Dr Steve McGloughlin, Bsc (Hons), B.Med, FCICM, MPH&TM, PGDipEcho Steve is an intensivist at the Alfred Hospital. Prior to working at the Alfred he trained in intensive care units in the United Kingdom, the Northern Territory and Queensland, including a paediatric intensive care fellowship. He is also an infectious diseases specialist and maintains both clinical and research interests in infections in critically ill patients. He has a special interest in education particularly the use of simulation and crisis resource management skills in critical care and has undertaked further training in the use of advanced healthcare simulation. He is also the convener of two of the Alfred ICU post graduate education courses, in crisis resource management and in infectious diseases in intensive care. His other interests include echocardiography in which he has a post graduate diploma. Dr. Vinodh B Nanjayya, MBBS, MD, EDIC, FCICM, DDU (Critical Care) Vinodh is a consultant intensivist at the Alfred hospital, Melbourne. He completed his ICU fellowship in 2010 and worked as a Fellow in Critical Care Echocardiography at the Alfred ICU. His main area of interest is Critical Care Echocardiography and its use in patients on extra-corporeal life support. His other special interests include echocardiography education, ICU epidemiology, Research and Biostatistics. He is involved as a study co-investigator in a number of research projects at the Alfred ICU. He is the main co-ordinator of Alfred ICU Critical Care Ultrasound education and is the joint co-ordinator of Alfred ICU junior medical staff education programme. He is involved in teaching in many of the Alfred ICU courses and is an ALS instructor. He is also involved in the development of Alfred ICU on-line learning packages for junior medical staff. In 2012, he was awarded the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (Critical Care) from the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM)
