A/Prof Geoff Frawley, BSc, MB BS, FANZCA, Dip RACOG,
Dip DHM
is a Hyperbaric Physician at the Alfred Hospital. He is also a
Senior Paediatric Anaesthetist at the Royal Children’s Hospital
and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of
Paediatrics, Melbourne University. He has received a number of
research grants, including an ANZCA Project grant and two
NHMRC grants in which he is an associate investigator in one
and a chief investigator in the other. He is widely published, and
has given many invited presentations, both overseas and within
Australia. His research interests include paediatric hyperbaric
oxygen therapy, anaesthetic neurotoxicity in the neonate, local
anaesthetic pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and
anaesthesia for congenital syndromes.
Dr Ian Millar, MBBS, FAFOEM, FUHM, Dip DHM, Cert DHM
Is a Hyperbaric physician at the Alfred Hospital, with 28 years of
experience in diving and hyperbaric medicine. He is Principal
Investigator for an international multicentre study of hyperbaric
oxygen in severe musculoskeletal trauma, the HOLLT study
(NHMRC Project Grant 490966). He is regularly invited to speak
at international meetings on the role of hyperbaric oxygen in
trauma and on hyperbaric chamber and hyperbaric medical
equipment safety and design. He is one of the few diving
medicine doctors with experience and expertise in offshore
industry diving medical support, including saturation diving. He
is involved in various commercial and recreational diving
standards setting bodies, including Standards Australia, the
Australasian Diver Accreditation Scheme and the International
Marine Contractors Association Diving Medical Advisory
Committee. He continues to serve as a medical advisor to a
range of diving, hyperbaric and tunneling safety and research
related bodies. He also provides medical oversight for the
Metropolitan Fire Brigade's involvement in Victoria's early
defibrillation program and consults to various governments
regarding technical specifications for new hyperbaric facilities.
As a younger doctor, he had operational involvement in rescue
and emergency services and remains interested in mountain,
marine and extreme environment physiology and search and
rescue related medical support.
In 2013, he was awarded a Fellowship in Undersea and
Hyperbaric Medicine by The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical
Society.
