usiness Talking point “ This month sees DSG complete its second trading year and although work is continuing on establishing the final figures, the early indications are that the business produced another solid business performance in 2009/10. This is due wholly to the significant contributions made by every employee in all the operational and support function areas spread across the UK and, of course, those colleagues working overseas The success of DSG is reliant on the commitment, knowledge and pride of the workforce in a job well done. In this edition of Digest, we read about the results of our customer review programme and learn how DSG’s results are improving year on year in all areas in which we are measured. This positive swing in the results is especially welcome given it comes at a time while we are still embedding our transformation plans and continuing on our journey of operational excellence. Transformation of the DSG businesses remains one of our highest priorities and significant improvements are now seen across many areas of the business. Alongside transformation, we are continuing to make our mark and establish a major role supporting operations in Afghanistan through our involvement in the Equipment Sustainability System based at Camp Bastion. Our boys out there tell their story elsewhere in this edition. We are now embarking on our third trading year and there is every indication that the next twelve months will be significantly more testing than the last. We all have to play our part in helping our customers achieve maximum value for the money that is available to them. We must continue recognising the strain on the public purse and play our part in continuing to drive down costs and delivering a service of the very highest quality. Best wishes, Archie Hughes Chief Executive ” Archie Hughes (left) and Sandy Wilson (right) signing the agreement General Dynamics UK and DSG sign FRES SV agreement DSG and General Dynamics UK have recently signed a high-level agreement on the FRES Specialist Vehicle (SV) programme. The Memorandum of Understanding would see substantial work taking place at DSG Donnington and become the basis for a long-term relationship in support of the UK’s defence industrial capabilities. The two companies have agreed to a mutual aim to transfer Assembly, Integration and Test for full rate production of the ASCOD SV, if General Dynamics is selected, from General Dynamics’s European production facilities to DSG. Sandy Wilson, President and Managing Director of General Dynamics UK, said: “This agreement builds on the strong working relationship between DSG and General Dynamics UK, as Bowman prime contractor and systems integrator, on the Army’s current fleet. It offers substantial value to the UK industrial base.” Archie Hughes, Chief Executive of DSG, told Digest, “I very much welcome this agreement, which reflects the capabilities of DSG and its workforce. It would pair the skills of two of the UK’s leading Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) workforces, maintaining and enhancing the UK’s sovereign capability to develop and upgrade AFVs in the long term.” STOP PRESS… The Secretary of State for Defence announced on 22 March that General Dynamics UK is the preferred bidder for the FRES study contract in which DSG has a significant role to play. www.dsg.mod.uk April/May 2010 DIGEST 3
