Gary’s fun run training for
marathon
The London Marathon takes place this year on Sunday 25
April and Gary Beck, Vehicle Mechanic at DSG
Warminster will be running for the Breast Cancer
Campaign charity.
Gary chose to run for this charity following the diagnosis of his
mother last June with breast cancer. He started training for his first
ever marathon earlier this year with Chris Snook, a former
employee. Gary trains most nights and is fast approaching the 10
mile mark for a run. He ran in his first fun run last weekend at
Stourhead and crossed the finishing line in a respectable 10th place
out of a filed of 200.
Of the 1200 applications to run for the breast cancer charity, Gary
is one of their 42 ‘Golden Bond’ runners and as such is obliged to
raise at least £1500.
Digest readers can find out how Gary got on in the London marathon in the next edition of Digest. Anyone wishing to pledge
a donation should contact Gary direct. We all wish him every success.
Ray knows his onions
Ray with some of his winning entries of
onions, shallots and sloe gin
Ray Butler is a senior craft armourer at DSG
Bovington and in his spare time he enjoys many
activities outside of work including being a
drummer in the Dorchester Town band. Besides
this musical side, he also has green fingers and is
always keen to enter his produce in various local
shows.
In the last year alone he took part in the Bockhampton
and District Horticultural Spring Flower Show winning 2
firsts, 1 second and a third prize. He also won the
Bockhampton Cup for the second year running for his
red onions, his shallots won in 2008. His red onions also
won categories at their summer show including the
Banksain Medal.
He also entered the Melplash Show for the first time
this year and gained 3 firsts, 4 seconds and a third and
in the Dorset County Show this September he gained 3 first prizes and quite a handful of others including
winning the Best Fruit in Show for his five Discovery apples out of 72 entries. Are there any other talented DSG
employees out there who have interests outside work that they would like to share with us? Let us know for
future editions of Digest.
