Rowville Secondary College Term 2 Issue 7 14 The Rowville Times Friday, May 25, 2012 Amy Davis Year Ten Psychology Ellie Gogis Sarah De Cesare In our year 10 Psychology class we are using token economies, which enforce positive behaviours in the class, with a points table for each group; points may be deducted for negative responses during class time. These may include; phones in class, not raising hands and not arriving to class on time. All the points we collect either go to group or individual rewards. Group and class rewards reach as high as 500 points with the pleasure of having Fish and Chips or Pizza in class fo r free. It’s a great challenge! Daniel Donovan In Psychology at the moment we are studying the different ways that people learn. We are currently using a ‘token economy’. Everyone has a pretend credit card and we receive points on the card if we do something good and we have points taken away if we do something wrong. If everyone ends up with a certain amount of points then we receive a reward. In Psychology at the moment we are learning about operant conditioning and the theories of learning. We are using a method in class called token economies. We have to reinforce our negative behaviours into positives. We have been gaining ‘tokens’ or points whenever we do something good. Some behaviour which has been reinforced are putting our hands up and telling Mr. Sherlock he’s a fantastic teacher! It’s been really fun and interesting to learn about operant conditioning. Monica Chhour At the moment in Psychology, we have been learning about token economies and the theories of reinforcing behaviours. It reinforces positive and negative behaviours. Token economies are the use of tokens as rewards that can be ‘cashed’ in for bigger rewards later. Token economies are mostly used in schools and prisons! In our class we gain points for good manners, hands up etc. and lose points for talking over someone etc. In year 10 Psychology at the moment we are learning about token economies. It is a method used to reinforce certain behaviours, mostly positive. If we are able to achieve a certain amount of class points we are able to cash in our points for a reward such as “fish and chips”, we also have individual rewards and group rewards as we have been assigned a house colour in groups of 5. We have learnt a lot about operant conditioning which is about altering certain behaviour over time. Timothy Sugumar At the moment in year 10 Psychology we are using token economy which uses reinforcement to help learn certain behaviours. It can be both positive and negative depending on what action has taken place. Mr. Sherlock has been able to bring in a fun environment into the topic by putting us in teams and giving us points as reinforcement. Everyone is really enthusiastic about it and getting involved! Psychology is really a great subject!
Rowville Secondary College Term 2 Issue 7 15 The Rowville Times Friday, May 25, 2012 Year Seven Technology Robbie Bechaz Technology Teacher My Year 7C Technology students are making Wall Hooks out of Wood and Metal. Jacinda, Savannah and Zoe did a fantastic job in class, are all very dedicated to their work and have fantastic personalities. Because of their continued hard efforts, they are going to be given a Fish and Chip lunch at my expense! Jacinda “I had a lot of fun doing the hooks. It is the best thing I have ever made. I don’t think I could have had any more fun than what I did making it.” Savannah “I thought it was a great project to make, because you can use the hook to put your keys and jackets on. Even though it is a long process making it, you can use it when you are done and I can say that I MADE IT..!!” Zoe “I think that this project was fun because we got to do just about everything ourselves. We got to use all sorts of tools and learnt how to use them safely. I am glad that we got to do this project and I hope we get to do something like this again.”
