Rowville Secondary College Term 2 Issue 7 22 The Rowville Times Friday, May 25, 2012 Author Jane Godwin Visits RSC Katrina Miller 8A On the 11 th of May Jane Godwin who wrote Falling from Grace came to speak to us Year 8’s. The story of her life and her sister escaping a rare disease of cancer was delightful to hear. It’s funny how creepy that place sounds! It was nice to see an author acting just like an ordinary lady but who wrote a book that touched the heart of many young adults like myself. It is a great book and a lovely author. I would recommend the book to all youth to read. The way she described her characters some based on her life experiences was an inspiration to any aspiring author. The entertaining tales of Port Nepean, the place where the story is set was interesting and enlightening. We are slowly changing the furniture in the East wide reading area to make the space more comfortable for relaxing with a good book. Library Furniture Upgrade Currently we have new couches and this week multipurpose ottomans for sitting or leaning. Our next addition will be 4 large pillow style bean bags. These are a great place for getting away from the winter cold before school and at lunchtime. They are also a great spot for reading on the library iPads. We have the Hunger Games series, Tomorrow When the War Began and a number of classics available for reading and are adding popular books regularly. We Need Books Elisha Sadikay English Coordinator The year seven English team has been working hard to introduce an innovative reading program designed to improve the reading skills of our students at Rowville Secondary College. The program requires each year seven class to develop an extensive library for their own personal use. These class libraries will be used for a wide range of activities, and you can help by donating any unused books you have lying around at home. There will be a collection point for these books in the main library at each campus. Thank-you for your help in continuing to improve the literacy skills of our students.
