Overview <strong>of</strong> the Course and Learning Goals<br />
The objectives <strong>of</strong> the course are to introduce future managers and specialists to how international<br />
factors influence modern <strong>business</strong> decision-making and to provide the requisite problem-solving<br />
skills in the global environment. The primary objective <strong>of</strong> this course is to provide the students<br />
with a broad overview <strong>of</strong> concepts, principles and applications <strong>of</strong> international <strong>business</strong>.<br />
Specifically, the course will have particular emphasis on:<br />
‣ Globalization<br />
‣ Cultural and government influences<br />
‣ International Trade and investment theory<br />
‣ Importing/exporting<br />
‣ International entrepreneurship<br />
‣ Global finance and currency movements<br />
‣ Ethical decision-making in an international context<br />
‣ Strategic alliances and other forms <strong>of</strong> management control<br />
‣ International <strong>business</strong>’ impact on functional <strong>business</strong> areas<br />
MBA Learning Goals:<br />
This course will directly address two MBA identified learning goals.<br />
Global Awareness: Students will be sensitive to differences in perspective, institutions,<br />
and practices among <strong>business</strong> people from different countries and cultures, so they may<br />
operate effectively in a global economy that puts a premium on global <strong>business</strong><br />
relationships.<br />
Knowledge Integration: Students will have a working knowledge <strong>of</strong> how different<br />
functional areas in <strong>business</strong> are applied in a holistic, analytical, and integrative manner to<br />
create and implement effective solutions to <strong>business</strong> problems.<br />
Ethical Awareness: Students will be sensitive to ethical issues in <strong>business</strong>, understand the<br />
importance <strong>of</strong> behavior and their responsibilities as <strong>business</strong> people to uphold ethical<br />
principles in their dealings.<br />
Communication: Students will be effective oral and written communicators as leadership<br />
and teamwork in <strong>business</strong> is dependent on developing shared meaning and commitment to<br />
action fostered through communication.
