Personal Profile<br />

Walter McFarland is Founder of Windmill Human Performance and the 2013 Board<br />

Chair of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). He was<br />

previously a Senior Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton leading the global<br />

business in HR, Learning, and Change and a Director at the Hay Group. The center<br />

piece of Walter’s career has been focused on large-scale improvements in<br />

organizational performance through people. His core belief is that people are the<br />

consummate source of competitive advantage.<br />

Walter’s clients include global companies, government agencies and not-for-profit<br />

organizations. His work has earned: the Hammer Award, the IRS Commissioner’s<br />

Award and Booz Allen’s highest consulting honor, the Professional Excellence<br />

Award.<br />

Walter teaches in the Summer Leadership Institute of Columbia University, at the<br />

NeuroLeadership Institute in Middlesex, England, and is a Senior Lecturer at HEC<br />

Management School, Paris. He currently serves on the President Obama’s 2013<br />

Rank Award Council.<br />

Walter holds: an MPA in Public Administration from Southern Illinois University; an<br />

MA in Government from Georgetown University; an Ed.S in Human Resource<br />

Development from the George Washington University; and an MSc in<br />

Organizational Change from HEC Management School, Paris, with Oxford<br />

University, England.<br />

Walter writes and speaks frequently on the topics or organizational change,<br />

leadership, and learning and is co-author (with Susan Goldsworthy) of "Choosing<br />

Change" coming in November of 2013 from McGraw-Hill
