Personal Profile
Walter McFarland is Founder of Windmill Human Performance and the 2013 Board
Chair of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). He was
previously a Senior Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton leading the global
business in HR, Learning, and Change and a Director at the Hay Group. The center
piece of Walter’s career has been focused on large-scale improvements in
organizational performance through people. His core belief is that people are the
consummate source of competitive advantage.
Walter’s clients include global companies, government agencies and not-for-profit
organizations. His work has earned: the Hammer Award, the IRS Commissioner’s
Award and Booz Allen’s highest consulting honor, the Professional Excellence
Award.
Walter teaches in the Summer Leadership Institute of Columbia University, at the
NeuroLeadership Institute in Middlesex, England, and is a Senior Lecturer at HEC
Management School, Paris. He currently serves on the President Obama’s 2013
Rank Award Council.
Walter holds: an MPA in Public Administration from Southern Illinois University; an
MA in Government from Georgetown University; an Ed.S in Human Resource
Development from the George Washington University; and an MSc in
Organizational Change from HEC Management School, Paris, with Oxford
University, England.
Walter writes and speaks frequently on the topics or organizational change,
leadership, and learning and is co-author (with Susan Goldsworthy) of "Choosing
Change" coming in November of 2013 from McGraw-Hill
