Personal Profile<br />

Howard Lurie is CS4Ed's expert in e-learning strategic planning, with a specific<br />

focus on the recent emergence of MOOCs (massive open online courses) and<br />

blended learning experiences.<br />

He has served as the Vice President for External Affairs at edX, where he was<br />

responsible for the strategic development of partnerships with a variety of<br />

universities and institutions, as well as supporting business relations and course<br />

development efforts. As an early hire at edX, Howard help build edX into one of the<br />

leading global providers of MOOCs and blended learning experiences.<br />

Prior to joining edX, Howard served as the Managing Director for PBS<br />

LearningMedia, a nationally recognized digital learning platform, jointly produced by<br />

PBS and WGBH Boston. Since the mid 1990s, Howard has advocated for data–<br />

driven, pioneering uses of online digital media to accelerate teacher professional<br />

development and classroom instruction.<br />

Howard currently serves as an e-learning advisor to BaleFire Labs, an apps start-up<br />

company, and the STEAM Studio Charter School for Creativity and Innovation in<br />

Andover, Massachusetts. Howard completed his Masters degree at Teachers'<br />

College of Columbia University and his undergraduate degree at the University of<br />

Massachusetts, Amherst. Howard currently provides consulting services to higher<br />

education institutions, corporations, non-profits, and educational agencies.
