The 2015 NEA RA voted to support a resolution th<strong>at</strong> calls on educ<strong>at</strong>ors<br />

to, "examine concepts of equal justice under the law, racial justice, and<br />

institutional racism in their classrooms," in addition to a call to "develop<br />

st<strong>at</strong>ements of support for <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Lives</strong> <strong>M<strong>at</strong>ter</strong> resolutions..."<br />

As well, educ<strong>at</strong>ors from around the country overwhelming passed a<br />

resolution against the use of the white supremacist symbol of the<br />

Confeder<strong>at</strong>e b<strong>at</strong>tle flag. The resolution directs the NEA towards, "efforts<br />

to remove the Confeder<strong>at</strong>e b<strong>at</strong>tle flag from public schools and public<br />

spaces."<br />

These resolutions<br />

taken together signal<br />

the influence of the<br />

<strong>Black</strong> <strong>Lives</strong> <strong>M<strong>at</strong>ter</strong><br />

movement on the<br />

largest union in the<br />

United St<strong>at</strong>es and an<br />

important<br />

development of the<br />

anti-racist<br />

consciousnesses of<br />

teachers.
