There are many difficulties involved in sending gift parcels and senders are advised to ensure that they comply with the regulations enforced in Uruguay before parcels are sent. Parcels are not delivered to the place of address. Addressees are notified of the arrival of parcels and are advised to collect them; a small fee is payable for this service in addition to any warehousing charges. To expedite the clearance through customs of postal items containing goods, CN 22 and Parcel Despatch Note must be completed correctly. They must, in particulars contain a full detailed description of the item’s contents.
Prohibitions Restrictions Coins, bank notes, currency notes or securities of any kind payable to bearer, travellers' cheques, platinum, gold or silver, whether manufactured or not, precious stones, jewels or other valuable articles; letters may not contain documents having the character of current and personal correspondence exchanged between persons other than the sender and the addressee or persons living with them; narcotics and psychotropic substances; explosive, flammable or other dangerous substances; obscene or immoral articles; articles of which the importation and circulation are prohibited in the country of destination; the insertion of live animals in letterpost items shall be prohibited; powder; press publications, manuscripts, printing plates, drawings, film, negatives, audio and video recordings and disks which undermine the State, social order, territorial integrity, political independence and the foundations of the State, inciting war, terrorism, violence, nationalism, religious hatred and fascism in all its manifestations. Importation of seeds and other agricultural products into Uzbekistan is allowed only upon authorisation issued by the Head of Quarantine Inspection of the Republic of Uzbekistan - "Ouzbochedavkarantine". Customers are advised to send mobile phones and other valuable items intended for its country only in insured items. The packaging of these items should conform to the provisions of article RL 134.5 of the Letter Post Regulations. In the event of the loss or theft of mobile phones and other valuable items sent by registered mail, the amount of the indemnity paid to the addressee will be as set out in article RL 155.4 of the Letter Post Regulations for registered items.
