Fanguy Snags SNAME Award<br />

Bollinger Shipyards, LLC announced its<br />

vice president for quality management<br />

system, Dennis Fanguy, will receive the<br />

2015 William M. Kennedy from the Society<br />

of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers<br />

(SNAME). The award is given<br />

in recognition of outstanding service<br />

and contribution in the development of<br />

systems and planning applying to shipbuilding<br />

and ship repair. Fanguy, a 1984<br />

graduate from the University of New<br />

Orleans (UNO) with a Bachelor of Science<br />

degree in Electrical Engineering,<br />

has been employed at Bollinger since his<br />

graduation 31 years ago.<br />

President Bush Sails with Disabled<br />

aboard the Impossible Dream<br />

Former President George HW Bush and<br />

First Lady Barbara Bush set sail with the<br />

crew of the Impossible Dream, a unique<br />

catamaran designed for disabled sailors,<br />

a chance for the watermen and activists<br />

to thank the 41st President of the United<br />

States for signing the Americans with<br />

Disabilities Act (ADA) into law in the<br />

summer of 1990. Impossible Dream is<br />

a 60-ft. wheelchair accessible catamaran<br />

yacht that this summer set sail from Miami<br />

up the eastern seaboard in celebration<br />

of the 25th anniversary of the ADA.<br />

ALMACO Wins Drillships Work<br />

ALMACO Group was awarded the design,<br />

material supply and supervision<br />

contract from Kawasaki Heavy Industries,<br />

Ltd. (KHI) in Japan for the first<br />

(DRU#1 - Ondina) and second (DRU#2<br />

- Pituba) drillships for the Enseada Industria<br />

Naval project In March 2014, KHI<br />

contracted ALMACO Group to deliver<br />

the design, material supply and supervision<br />

for the catering areas, inclusive<br />

galley, provision stores, refrigeration<br />

machinery and mess rooms, located on<br />

the hull of the first drillship, Ondina. The<br />

expected delivery date for this work is<br />

end of 2015.<br />

Metalcraft Celebrates 50th<br />

Metalcraft, a designer and manufacturer<br />

of fire detection and suppression equipment,<br />

is celebrating its 50th anniversary.<br />

Beginning as a machine shop in the mid-<br />

60s with two owners and a secretary, the<br />

company served a localized Baltimore<br />

customer base. Within 10 years, it began<br />

supplying fire extinguishers to the U.S.<br />

government and defense agencies. By<br />

1997, Metalcraft had become an international<br />

company. It currently has a staff<br />

of over 50 employees, with an extensive<br />

global sales and distribution network.<br />

Maritime Professional Training Founder<br />

Elmer Morley, MPT’s founder, long<br />

time chief engineering instructor, father,<br />

grandfather, great grandfather, and<br />

husband lost his battle with pancreatic<br />

cancer last month. He founded Maritime<br />

Professional Training in 1983.<br />

Retlif Expands Into North Carolina<br />

Retlif Testing Laboratories has expanded<br />

with a new location in Concord,<br />

North Carolina. The new laboratory is in<br />

answer to the growing regional need for<br />

testing services and is the result of two<br />

years of searching for an ideal location.<br />

The new laboratory is initially offering<br />

pre-compliance evaluation Electromagnetic<br />

Interference/Electromagnetic<br />

Compatibility services, including EMI,<br />

EMC, Lightning testing and Electrostatic<br />

Discharge (ESD). The EMI test standard<br />

for the Department of Defense is MIL-<br />

STD-461, while the EMI test standard<br />

for the Commercial Aviation Industry<br />

is RTCA DO-160. Other available services<br />

include ESS regulatory consulting<br />

and documentation, as well as extensive<br />

Master Mariner Quain Joins Hill<br />

Dickinson’s Shipping Team<br />

Hill Dickinson said that Captain Joe<br />

Quain, formerly of Bentley’s Stokes and<br />

Lowless, will be joining the firm as a<br />

partner in the Singapore office with effect<br />

from September 1, 2015, bringing<br />

the firm’s strength of Master Mariner<br />

lawyers to six in total. Tony Goldsmith,<br />

partner and master mariner who heads<br />

the Singapore office, said: “As a solicitor<br />

and Master Mariner of 20 years’ experience,<br />

Joe’s expertise in all aspects<br />

of Admiralty work can only strengthen<br />

our existing commitment to provide our<br />

clients with the highest standard of legal<br />

advice.”<br />

BMT Nigel Gee Reaches 1000th Project Milestone<br />

BMT Nigel Gee (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group<br />

Ltd, and a leading independent naval architecture and<br />

marine engineering design consultancy, is celebrating<br />

its latest achievement in securing its 1000th project<br />

which will involve the delivery of detailed production<br />

engineering for a ferry machinery conversion. John<br />

Bonafoux, Managing Director of BMT Nigel Gee<br />

comments:<br />

“Reaching our 1000th project is a massive achievement<br />

and I’m extremely proud of how far we’ve come.<br />

Our first ever project seems such a long time ago now,<br />

but I still remember it well. It was a new ferry design<br />

and both Nigel Gee and I were burning the candles<br />

at both ends, ensuring the delivery of the project and<br />

ever since then the company has gone from strength<br />

to strength.”<br />

Operating across four principal market sectors, the<br />

naval architectural practice delivers design and engineering<br />

services for specialized vessels in the commercial,<br />

yacht, defense and offshore energy markets.<br />

With 62 live projects, BMT made an exciting start<br />

to the year with current contracts equating to a total<br />

vessel length of nearly 2600m, spreading across 13<br />

countries, over three continents. The company also<br />

recently announced the completion of new offices<br />

in Southampton to meet this large increase in design<br />
