Bishop urges St. Mary
grads to work for peace
GAYLORD — Fifty-two graduating seniors of St.
Mary Cathedral High School went through commencement
exercises Sunday, June 5 at St. Mary
Cathedral.
Relatives and friends looked on as seniors were
presented with diplomas for their four years of hard
work in getting through high school.
"Pomp and Circumstance" was played by the high
school brass ensemble and the cathedral organ as
the seniors took their seats.
Father James Suchocki. rector of the cathedral,
gave the invocation.
Welcoming the audience and speakers to the exercises
was Amy Jackson, co-salutatorian of the class.
Jackson shared the honors with Jacki Mankowski.
The choir then sang an inspirational song to the
graduates, "Hitch Your Dream to the Morning.
Star."
During her valedictory- address which followed,
Cathy O'Neill told hfer fellow seniors to always demand
the best for themselves in whatever they do.
BISHOP Robert Rose was the guest speaker for
the graduation ceremonies.
"One of the great gifts the Lord has given to each
of you graduates is the gift of_ your education,"

making the enormous sacrifices it takes to have it, is
to pass on the faith to you."
Carrying on the values they had learned through
their schooling of promoting equal rights-to all, helping
the handicapped, making an effort to stop the
arms race and working for genuine peace, was important
for the graduates to remember during their
lives, stated Bishop Rose.
After Bishop Rose's speech, Richard Theisen,
principal, presented the graduating class to the audience.
Diplomas were passed out by Father Suchocki.
"Life Keeps Movin" was then sung by the choir,
with senior chior members joining the group for
theirlast time—.
