GREENFEST EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
FREE Admission & Parking for the
Saturday, April 20, 2013 4th Annual
Greenfest Earth Day Celebration. The
event will be held at the UNLV Campus
with free admission and parking from
11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is the combined effort of
Greenfest and the UNLV Festival of Communities. The
goal is educating the public in a myriad of ways to better
understand why and how to live more sustainably. Bring
the family, your friends and neighbors and make it a day
to remember.
Visit the Kid Zone and participate in the fun activities.
The farmers markets throughout the valley will be there.
Take your picture with the mascots. See the repurposed
fashion show. Adopt a Pet. Learn organic gardening
and composting tips. Be inspired by the art and visit
with the artists. View the latest hybrid and electric cars.
Try tasty food from a variety of vendors. Exhibitors
will give you current health and wellness information.
View the largest recycling and repurpose display. Listen
to live musicians. Green vendors will show you the
latest technology to help you live more responsibly.
See the research UNLV undergraduates are doing. At
the Solar Decathlon Project, students will show you
their worldwide competition home. You will be privy
to the latest and greatest information on repurposing,
recycling, and reducing. This is a Zero Waste event –
come and see for yourself!
INCREASE YOUR GREEN IQ: GREENWASH (green’wash’,
-wôsh’) – verb: the act of misleading consumers regarding
the environmental practices of a company or the
environmental benefi ts of a product or service. Visit
www.sinsofgreenwashing.org. The site claims 4.5% of
products examined to be “sin free” compared to 2.0% in
2009. Play the “Name the Sin” game, which shares a lot
of good information on greenwashing.
SAVE YOUR MONEY The www.energystar.gov site
claims energy savings can help homeowners save
approximately one-third on energy bills. Use this site to
get current information on the Energy Star certifi cations.
The Carpet Institute (CRI): Since carpet or rugs are found
in almost every S.0063617 home and business this site
will arm you with the science and help you make better
choices. Visit www.carpet-rug.org. Current information
will help you save money too!
OUR GREEN Committee Invitation is for both GLVAR
