Chairmen of the 2015
Cattle Baron’s Ball of
the RGV. Please join
us as we get ready to
dust off our boots and
kick up our heels for a
cure at a "Starry Night
Over the Rio Grande."
Young or old, male
or female, cancer is
a disease that does
not discriminate. We
have personally seen
the devastating effects of this terrible disease, and it is
my hope that by supporting and donating our time and
efforts, we might all be able to make a difference.
The Cattle Baron’s Ball of the RGV has a rich history
of hosting the best non-profit event in the Rio Grande
Valley, as well as doing a tremendous job of raising much
needed funds. Said funds allow the American Cancer
Society to continue it's mission of helping people stay
well through prevention and early detection; helping
people get well by reducing barriers to treatments; by
funding cures through ground breaking research, and
by fighting back through public policy efforts.
Last year, the Cattle Baron’s Ball raised $118,000 for
cancer research, and it is our goal to raise even more
this year, but we cannot do it without your help. The
generosity of businesses and individuals in our great
community is something we need to make this year's
event the best yet.
We'd like to thank you for your time and contribution
as we saddle up for a night to remember! Everyone
knows someone affected by cancer, and we invite you
to get involved however you can and help us continue
to make a difference. Together we can finish the fight!

HONOREE CHAIRMAN
It is our privilege to announce Myssie Cardenas-Barajas as the 2015 Honoree Chairman for
the Cattle Baron’s Ball of the RGV.
In July of 2006, Myssie’s mother, Mimi Cardenas, was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer.
Three years later, Mimi’s sister, Luz Gomez, was diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosomepositive
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). As a family they fought bravely until 2011, when
Mimi’s youngest child and only son, Donny Cardenas, fell victim to the stress that plagues
family and caregivers and died suddenly of a stroke at the age of 38. All three of Myssie’s family
members lost their lives that year within six months of each other.
It was during that year that Myssie made a promise to her family - to be an advocate for
cancer awareness, addressing the issues that her mother and Sissy witnessed during their
battles. Shortly before Sissy passed away, she asked Myssie to start running for her so that
she wouldn’t suffer the health dangers that her family did. Myssie hasn’t stopped running
since and documents her journey in her extremely candid blog, RunMyssieRun.com, through
which she inspires her entire community to do the same and not take health for granted.
Thousands have followed her courageous journey filled with faith, hope and an unwavering
determination to make the impossible possible, specifically a world without cancer. It is with
great adoration that we honor Myssie and her family at this year's Cattle Baron’s Ball.

GENERAL AUCTION RULES
• Payment by the successful bidder must be made immediately following the sale at the bank by
cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, or American Express. Payment in full this evening is mandatory.
• All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds on items.
• All auction items are offer “as is”. Any description of auction items is for the sole purpose of
identifying the items, and seller disclaims any expressed or implied warranties with respect to
the auction items.
• All donors’ stipulations will be specifically outlined and must be honored.
• Items may be removed the evening of the event only by exhibiting a paid receipt. Other
arrangements for pickup or delivery must be made when checking out at the bank.
• All applicable taxes must be paid by the purchaser.
• Airline and trip arrangements are subject to availability, (blackout dates may exist), and are to be
agreed upon with the donors
• Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used by September 19, 2016
LIVE AUCTION RULES
• The live auction begins at 9PM. Auction conducted by Commissioner Veronica Vela-Whitacre.
• The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In the event of a dispute,
that auctioneer shall have the sole and final discretion to determine the successful bidder or to
auction the item again.
• Group purchases are welcome. However, one person must be responsible for the bidding and
the purchases, as well as for notifying and auction cashier as to the names of the other buyers.
Fund the Mission/Transportation System
Help Send Someone on the Road to Recovery
Patients with cancer must overcome many psychological, social, and economic barriers to obtain
needed treatment. Because of the need for repeated visits for cancer treatment, one of the major
issues that patients encounter is arranging for transportation to care. Without treatment their hope
is gone.
The American Cancer Society’s Texas Transportation Fund offers cancer patients in the Rio Grande
Valley and across Texas a ride on the Road to Recovery by providing transportation to their lifesaving
treatment. Your gift to Fund the Mission tonight will only be used for transportation services
to support cancer patients in the Rio Grande Valley, and is one hundred percent tax deductible.
