• acquir<strong>in</strong>g cultural objects such as a big drum, h<strong>and</strong> drums, regalia, shawls, vests, <strong>and</strong> a talk<strong>in</strong>g<br />

stick to use for cultural <strong>and</strong> school events<br />

• adopt<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>Aborig<strong>in</strong>al</strong> name <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> local language <strong>and</strong> mak<strong>in</strong>g it visible on/<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> school<br />

• send<strong>in</strong>g ambassadors from each school to significant community or regional events<br />

• creat<strong>in</strong>g a story ‘door’ (or display) regard<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> relationship of <strong>the</strong> school <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> local b<strong>and</strong>.<br />

have a place to go where <strong>the</strong>y feel safe <strong>and</strong> are able<br />

to connect with an <strong>Aborig<strong>in</strong>al</strong> support worker or<br />

someone <strong>the</strong>y feel comfortable with. ...also, that<br />

<strong>the</strong>y have a place to go that belongs to <strong>the</strong>m <strong>and</strong><br />

important for students; creat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

opportunities for this to happen is<br />

affirm<strong>in</strong>g; for example, a bullet<strong>in</strong><br />

posted <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> school that <strong>in</strong>cludes<br />

profil<strong>in</strong>g of issues <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Aborig<strong>in</strong>al</strong> community can help<br />

improve visibility <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>itiate<br />

discussions/conversations; o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

examples <strong>in</strong>clude Remembrance<br />

Day profil<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Aborig<strong>in</strong>al</strong> vets. A<br />

cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g collection of small acts of<br />

<strong>in</strong>clusion <strong>and</strong> recognition will have<br />

more impact than a one-off.<br />
