SDS Resource and Training Programme
SCLD has produced a new performance improvement resource for service providers and a
programme of free training events for organisations wanting to use it. Progress in Personalisation
is a self-assessment framework that helps provider organisations measure the progress they are
making towards delivering personalised support.
In the move towards self-directed support, this tool will not only help providers understand their
current effectiveness, but also develop an Action Plan to help them improve. It is aimed squarely at
supporting organisations both to identify and evidence the impact their service makes to people’s
lives.
Progress in Personalisation has been developed in Scotland over the last three years, with the involvement of people who
use self-directed support and their families at the heart of its design. It was developed by SCLD, Heartfelt Ltd and Integratis
Consulting. It has been developed to be used by adult service providers for:
• People with learning disabilities
• People with mental health problems
• People with physical disabilities
• Older people
Progress in Personalisation comes in two formats – as a paper document, and as an Access database. The database allows
for easier completion, action planning and tracking of progress over time. These resources are available on SCLD’s website.
In addition, SCLD are offering a free training programme to support organisations to implement this self-assessment process
painlessly. We will be offering a two day programme in Aberdeen on the 27th Oct 2015 and 3rd Mar 2016
Each organisation/delegate books for both dates. On the first day you will learn how to use the framework. On the followup
day you will address implementation issues, and learn about advanced techniques. Training will be delivered by SCLD,
Heartfelt Ltd and Integratis Consulting.
Poor People are Lazy Say a Worrying Number of Scots
Original Article by Graham Martin, TFN
http://thirdforcenews.org.uk/tfn-news/poor-people-are-lazy-say-a-worrying-number-of-scots
A shocking number of Scots think poverty is caused by laziness, according to new charity research.
Cyrenians, which published the poll, says the findings show there is still some distance to go in challenging public perceptions
of those in need.
More than a quarter (28%) of those polled by the anti-poverty challenge thought people were poor because they are too
lazy to do anything about their circumstances.
The survey was commissioned as part of Cyrenians’ newly launched Tell Your Story campaign aimed at changing how the
public views those who are struggling.
It found that 24% believed a lack of willpower was another contributory factor to people living in poverty.
At the same time, the majority thought that unemployment (76%), addiction (59%) and family circumstances (56%) are
main causes of poverty.
Scottish people believe early intervention and working with those most at risk, along with providing more jobs, are the best
ways to reduce poverty.
