Does your organisation work with disabled children and young people and their families? The Better Breaks grants
programme for 2016 is now open for applications. Grants of up to £50,000 over 12 months are available.
The application form and guidance notes are online here
The deadline for applications is Noon Friday 4th December.
About Better Breaks
Better Breaks is part of the Short Breaks Fund, funded by Scottish Government and administered by Shared Care Scotland.
The aim of Better Breaks is to improve the wellbeing of families with a disabled child through making more opportunities
available to have a short break. We are particularly keen to support families whose children have disabilities and additional
multiple support needs, because these families are likely to need a break the most.
About short breaks
A short break might be…..
• an adventure holiday for a group of disabled young adults
• holiday or afterschool play-schemes for disabled children
• a weekly social evening for disabled teenagers to see a film or have a meal
• family holidays in a group with others who have similar experiences
• buddy and befriending schemes
• weekly leisure or sports activities that involve disabled young people
There are lots more examples on our Short Breaks Stories website: go here for inspiration.
Who can apply?
Third Sector organisations and community groups. We are also keen to encourage partnership applications between Third
Sector groups and local authorities.
Book a place on one of our free application workshops in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Falkirk or Inverness to learn how
to make the most of your application and enjoy a networking lunch. There is more information about the workshops here
New funding for community greenspaces – applications open 19 October
Communities across Scotland, England and Wales will soon be able to apply for up to £12,000 for local greenspace projects
thanks to a new grant scheme being launched with the proceeds generated from the sale of carrier bags by Tesco. It is
anticipated that there will be two funding rounds per year over the next three years. The first funding round opens on 19
October 2015 and will close on 30 November 2015. The scheme is open to community groups, charities and some public
sector organisations and will fund capital improvement projects such as parks, play areas, community gardens and other
greenspaces. The scheme is managed by environmental charity Groundwork, working in Scotland with greenspace scotland.
